Job summary

Mainspring Energy is seeking a Sr. Machinist to support its engineering development lab in Menlo Park.

You will manage daily workloads, respond to projects needing precision machining in metals and composites, and produce complex R&D prototype parts by programming, setting up, and operating CNC, vertical mills, lathes, and traditional machines. You will work with engineers to evaluate processes, plan layouts, and ensure safety and quality while maintaining equipment and supplies.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED; at least 7 years of related experience.
• Higher degree(s) may substitute for experience on a year-for-year basis.

Responsibilities

• Oversee day-to-day shop operations and ensure production meets specifications and standards.
• Operate vertical mills, band saws, drill presses, and measuring tools for prototype parts.
• Consult with engineers on design, materials, and fabrication methods.
• Plan machining by studying orders, drawings, and tolerances; interpret GD&T.
• Collaborate with engineers to improve processes for efficiency and adaptability.
• Possibly supervise shop personnel and assist in hiring, training, and performance reviews.
• Maintain knowledge of state‑of‑the‑art technology and safety procedures.
