Infodepot in Spartanburg is seeking a MakerSpace Assistant to manage the Maker Lab and facilitate innovative programs. Job description

JOB TITLE: MakerSpace Assistant, Grade 17

LOCATION: Headquarters Library

DATE AVAILABLE: August 1, 2026

SALARY: $2,305 per month (Includes generous benefit package)

HOURS: 40 hours per week

Schedule A & C: M: 8:30-5:30 pm T: 8:30-5:30 pm W: 8:30-6 pm TH: 8:30-6 pm Sat: 9:45-5:15 pm

Schedule B & D: Sun: 12-5:15 pm T: 8:30-5:30 pm W: 8:30-5:30 pm TH: 8:30-5:30 pm F: 8:30-5:30 pm (NOTE: This schedule is subject to change pending the move into the new Maker Lab location)

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: Bachelor’s Degree preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience in libraries and maker spaces.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Plans, promotes, and presents innovative programs for the Maker Lab workspaces and/or at off‑site visits;
  • Shares maker information, activities, and programs through community outreach
  • Responsible for maintaining an attractive and engaging environment in the Maker Lab workspaces through high quality patron interactions, dynamic displays, and more
  • Provides training for all equipment and troubleshoots technology as needed
  • Responsible for Maker Lab, classroom, and workspace closing procedures when scheduled for night and weekend closings
  • Participates in department meetings, attends regular training related to library and MakerSpace work
  • Remains aware of safety and security issues and takes appropriate action as needed

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience in libraries and maker spaces
  • Knowledge and proven experience with a variety of maker activities and/or technology, including (but not limited to) 3d printing (slicing and rendering), archival digitization, laser cutting/etching (e.g. Glowforge, XTool), sewing, embroidery, desktop cutting (e.g. Cricut, Silhouette), digital design (e.g. Adobe, Canva), handicrafts, and/or weaving
  • Comfort with learning, utilizing, and teaching others the activities and technologies
  • Comfort interacting with a wide range of patrons of all ages and abilities
  • Proficient with technology and the ability to troubleshoot equipment and software
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to establish deadlines, monitor progress, and work well with a team
  • Strong interpersonal and customer service skills
  • SCPL uses multi-factor authentication for network and program access. Employees may be required to use their personal device for MFA.
  • Driver’s license valid in the State of South Carolina with the ability to drive to other libraries or community outreach
