Job summary

UMC Lakewood, WA is seeking a Major Projects Project Engineer to provide project management support to PMs, coordinate costs, scheduling and document control for mechanical and plumbing scopes.

You will collaborate with superintendents, foremen, engineers and managers to ensure quality and profit, while adhering to UMC standards and safety programs in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Track, forecast, and report labor hours and material costs.
  • Assist in buyout/procurement of major equipment and subcontracts.
  • Expedite and track deliveries of major equipment and materials.
  • Maintain knowledge of conditions, scope and specs of contracts.
  • Ensure compliance with UMC safety program at jobsite.
  • Coordinate with field supervision to plan schedule and subcontracting.
  • Review drawings and specifications for projects.
  • Prepare fabrication shop packages with takeoffs and budgets.
  • Develop knowledge of mechanical systems and cost control.

Paid Time Off

Eligible employees begin accruing PTO on their date of hire. PTO combines vacation and sick leave, starting at 15 days per year for full-time employees.

Position Description

Starting Hourly Wage: $33.65 - $37.50/hour; depending on experience

Location: Lakewood, WA

Classification: Non-Exempt

Position Overview

Provide project management support for Project Managers through effective communication, negotiation, scheduling, tracking, document control, and forecasting of costs and profitability. Support and collaborate with company superintendents, foreman, engineers, detailers, and management to deliver quality and profitable projects.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Track, forecast, report labor hours and material costs.
  2. Assist in the buyout/procurement process of major equipment and subcontracts.
  3. Expedite and track deliveries of major equipment/materials.
  4. Maintain working knowledge of general conditions, work scope and specifications of project contract/subcontract.
  5. Maintain and control documents in compliance with UMC Standards as well as contractual compliance.
  6. Collaborate with field labor supervision to plan, organize and schedule project work including preparation of subcontract/contract integrated project schedule.
  7. Review contract drawings, detail drawings and specifications.
  8. Prepare fabrication shop work package including detail drawing review, material take off and buyout, and man-hour fabrication budget.
  9. Ensure full compliance with UMC Safety Program at the jobsite.
  10. Regular attendance and promptness.
  11. Proficiency with MS Outlook, Excel, Word, Bluebeam, Smartsheet, One Drive, MS Teams, SharePoint, Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC), Viewpoint Vista, Revit, Stratus (on the job training will be provided for many of these programs).
  12. Develop an understanding of construction sequencing, especially as it is related to mechanical and plumbing scopes of work.
Secondary Responsibilities
  1. Maintain client, vendor, subcontractor, and internal team relations.
  2. Develop and retain mechanical systems knowledge including engineering, estimating, construction practices, and financial management.

Preferred Education and Experience
  1. Degree in construction management, mechanical, civil, or chemical engineering desired, or previous construction experience..
  2. 0-2 years of experience in construction management, mechanical engineering, or related field preferred.
Required Licensing and Other Certifications
  1. Maintain a valid driver's license and satisfactory driving record.
