Job summary

Detroit Foundation Hotel's Apparatus Room is seeking a Maître D who reports to the Restaurant Manager. This non-exempt role leads guest service at the restaurant, welcomes guests, manages reservations, and ensures smooth arrival and departure experiences.

You will work with the F&B team, train hosts, coordinate with chefs and bartenders, and maintain high standards of hospitality in a fast-paced hotel restaurant setting in Detroit.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 1 year experience as a Host in either a stand-alone restaurant or hotel restaurant.
• Experience taking, making, and executing reservations in a reservation platform.
• Basic computing skills in Word, Excel, and Outlook.
• Alcohol service certification or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire.
• Must meet local age requirements in order to serve alcohol.
• Available to work a flexible schedule including nights, weekends and holidays.
• Fluency in English both verbally and non-verbally.

Responsibilities

• Uphold and model the company’s principles of People, Place and Character, driving collaboration and hospitality.
• Assist guests from arrival to departure by greeting them, setting up the host stand, and managing reservations.
• Learn and manage reservations and scheduling software to accommodate allergies and dietary needs.
• Receive and respond to reservation inquiries, and relay restaurant policies to guests.
• Coordinate with F&B and Culinary teams to ensure guests get their orders in a timely fashion.
• Maintain cleanliness and accuracy of the dining room and host station; balance shift and station charts.
• Train new host team members and lead the host during shifts.
• Monitor dining room progress to ensure reservations are seated promptly.
• Escalate guest complaints to management when needed and maintain positive communication.
• Assist in other areas of the F&B department as needed.
