Job summary

EmergencyMD in Chicago is seeking a Maintenance Mechanic to maintain, troubleshoot, and repair food manufacturing and packaging equipment to ensure safe, efficient production. The ideal candidate has strong mechanical and electrical skills and a commitment to food safety and preventive maintenance.

You will diagnose equipment failures, perform preventive maintenance, read manuals and schematics, comply with GMP and OSHA standards, and collaborate with Production to minimize downtime and improve

Qualifications

• Experience in a food manufacturing or food processing environment.
• Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills.
• Experience performing preventive maintenance on industrial production and packaging equipment.
• Knowledge of plumbing, electrical systems, and general facility maintenance.
• Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and maintenance documentation.
• Knowledge of GMP, food safety standards, and OSHA regulations.
• Strong problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and in a fast-paced production environment.
• Willingness to work flexible schedules or different shifts based on production needs.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical and electrical equipment failures.
• Repair and replace defective components using hand tools, power tools, and maintenance equipment.
• Perform preventive maintenance on food processing and packaging equipment according to production schedules.
• Complete facility maintenance tasks, including plumbing, electrical repairs, wall patching, and general building maintenance.
• Read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and equipment documentation to perform accurate repairs.
• Maintain accurate maintenance records, including work orders, parts inventory, and service logs.
• Ensure compliance with all safety procedures, GMP, food safety regulations, and company policies.
• Collaborate with Production teams to minimize downtime and maximize equipment performance.
• Monitor equipment reliability and recommend improvements to increase efficiency and reduce breakdowns.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe maintenance shop and work area.
• Respond promptly to equipment breakdowns and emergency maintenance requests as needed.

Job Requirements:

• Previous Maintenance Mechanic experience in a food manufacturing or food processing environment required
