Job summary

Lee County Parks & Recreation in North Carolina is seeking maintenance workers dedicated to the Lee County Athletic Park (LCAP). You will be responsible for tournament field prep and upkeep of ballfields and surfaces.

You will report daily to the LCAP maintenance shop for assignments and gear, perform general maintenance, and work with a team or solo as required in varying weather conditions.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; minimal to moderate grounds maintenance experience.
• Experience mowing lawns or greens preferred.
• Willing to be on call for weekend work on a rotational basis.

Job description

General Definition of Work:

Lee County Parks and Recreation Department is seeking individuals to assist in the general maintenance of the new Lee County Athletic Park (LCAP). The maintenance workers assigned to this position will be dedicated exclusively to LCAP, ensuring high-quality tournament field preparation, as well as the upkeep of ballfields, playing surfaces, and all other general maintenance needs throughout the park. These individuals will report to the LCAP maintenance shop daily to receive assignments and necessary equipment.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Applicants should be familiar with turf and landscape care and management, athletic field layouts, dimensions, and maintenance for various sports, able to safely operate and maintain tools and equipment (mowers, line stripers, aerators, tractors, etc.), have an understanding of irrigation equipment, facility maintenance (plumbing, electrical, fencing, general repairs, etc.), familiar with OSHA standards, field prep, problem solving, time management skills, attention to detail, able to collaborate as a team or work independently, ability to perform physically demanding tasks (lifting, bending, walking long distances) in extreme weather conditions.

Minimum Education and Experience:

High school diploma or GED. Minimal to moderate experience in ground maintenance, mowing lawns or greens, or related fields.

Special Requirements:

• Valid driver’s license in the state of North Carolina.
• Specific licensure or certification related to area assigned may be required.
• Training will be provided, must be completed upon hire and on an ongoing basis.
• Availability to be on call for weekend work on a scheduled rotational basis.

Preference will be given to those with pesticide applicators license or the ability to obtain the pesticide applicator license within one (1) year of hire.

NC SBI Electronic Fingerprinting, Criminal History Background Check , and pre-employment drug testing are required prior to employment.
