Salary Range: $29,319.00 - $43,978.00

General Statement of Duties

Performs maintenance and groundskeeping work for County parks, playgrounds, playing fields, and recreational facilities. Operates mowers, trimmers, chainsaws, and other light equipment; performs general cleaning, landscaping, minor repairs, and construction tasks. Prepares athletic fields for games and assists with setting up and taking down facilities for special events. Work may be performed independently or as part of a crew and requires working safely in both indoor and outdoor environments and varying weather conditions.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

• Operates mowers and other equipment to maintain grass and recreational areas.
• Uses chainsaws, weed eaters, and hand tools to trim trees and shrubs and remove leaves, limbs, and trash.
• Installs and repairs chain-link fencing, baseball backstops, picnic tables, shelters, roofs, and playground equipment.
• Performs minor equipment troubleshooting, maintenance, and repairs.
• Cleans and maintains County recreational facilities.
• Sets up and dismantles facilities for special events and County-sponsored functions.
• Prepares playing fields by mowing, painting regulation lines, and moving bleachers.
• Assists with training part-time staff.
• Performs related duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma and some experience in maintenance work, preferably in a park or recreational setting; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Must have a valid North Carolina driver's license.

Knowledge, Skills And Abilities

• Knowledge of grounds and building maintenance tools, materials, and equipment.

Physical Requirements

Must be able to perform physical activities including climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, and repetitive motions. Must be able to lift and move objects weighing up to 50 pounds occasionally and operate mobile equipment safely.
