Job summary

Missouri Department of Natural Resources is seeking a maintenance worker to support Katy Trail State Park operations from Machens to Matson, including routine facility upkeep and grounds care at Confluence Point State Park in West Alton, MO.

The role covers a range of trades such as electrical, plumbing, carpentry, concrete, and painting, with a schedule Monday–Thursday, 7:00 a.m.–5:30 p.m. A CDL must be obtained within six months if not currently held.

Qualifications

• Four to six years of on-the-job training in building, electrical, plumbing, or mechanical trades.
• Lack of post-secondary education will not be used as the sole basis denying consideration.

Responsibilities

• Perform skilled maintenance, natural resource stewardship, and repair of state buildings and facilities.
• Work in electrical, plumbing, carpentry, concrete, masonry, painting, plastering, and mechanical repair.
• Clean park buildings, restrooms, campsites, and grounds.
• Operate lawn mowers, tractors, skid loaders, trucks, chainsaws, leaf blowers, and similar equipment.
• Maintain timekeeping, assist visitors, and track reports.
• May oversee a maintenance crew.

This position will report to and assist with work at Edward ‘Ted’ and Pat Jones - Confluence Point State Park, 1000 Riverlands Way, West Alton, MO. Primary work duties will include assisting with maintenance on the Eastern section of the Katy Trail State Park, which goes from Machens to Matson. This position typically works Monday through Thursday, 7:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. with a 30-minute lunch break. Shifts may vary occasionally with the time of year and to meet the needs of the facility.

• Responsible for performing a variety of skilled work in maintenance, natural resource stewardship, and repair or alteration of state buildings and facilities. Work area includes Katy Trail State Park.
• Work in a variety of trade areas such as electrical, plumbing, carpentry, concrete and masonry, painting, plastering, and mechanical repair in settings such as facilities and grounds.
• Routine cleaning of park buildings, restrooms, campsites, and park/historic site grounds.
• Operate and maintain lawn mowers, tractors, skid loader, trucks, chainsaws, leaf blowers, and similar mechanical equipment.
• Basic computer and customer service skills for timekeeping, assisting visitors, and regular report tracking.
• Ability to safely operate and maintain chainsaws to include experience felling trees.
• Assist with prescribed burns, wildfire suppression, herbicide application, and other natural or cultural activities as directed with the completion of Level 1 Prescribed Fire training.
• Maintain a valid vehicle operator’s license to operate and maintain licensed vehicles, as well as tractors, mowers, skid steer, and other grounds related equipment.
• May also oversee a crew engaged in maintenance tasks.

• This position is required to obtain and maintain a commercial operator’s license (CDL).If required and if you do not currently possess this license/certification, you will be given six months to obtain necessary license/certification.

• Plumbing and Pipefitting: Knowledge of materials, methods, and the appropriate tools to install, maintain, or repair pipelines, pipe systems, and fixtures, including water, air, steam, gas, chemicals, or sewage.

Equivalent to those typically gained by:

• Four to six years of on-the-job training in building, electrical, plumbing, or mechanical trades. (Additional education or experience may substitute for the required education or experience)
