Job summary

State of Missouri at Montauk State Park in Salem, MO seeks a versatile maintenance worker to operate, maintain and repair water/wastewater systems and park facilities. The role requires regular weekends, nights and holiday shifts across a range of trades, including carpentry, plumbing, electrical, and mechanical repairs.

Qualifications

  • Four to six years of on-the-job training/experience in trade areas (Education may be substituted for experience).
  • Lack of post-secondary education will not be used as the sole basis denying consideration to any applicant.
  • Must obtain and maintain licenses/certifications such as water/wastewater and DSP Level 1 within six months if required.

Responsibilities

  • Operate, maintain, and repair the park’s water and wastewater systems.
  • Perform a variety of semi-skilled work in maintenance and repair of state buildings and facilities.
  • Research, estimate, acquire bids and/or purchase materials for specific projects or repairs.
  • Work in trades such as electrical, plumbing, carpentry, concrete and masonry, painting, plastering, and mechanical repair.
  • Routine cleaning of park buildings, restrooms, campsites, and park grounds.
  • Collaborate and problem-solve with team members and supervisors.
  • Participate in stewardship work including prescribed fire; DSP Level 1 training within 12 months.
  • Maintain a valid vehicle operator’s license and operate grounds equipment.
  • May oversee a crew engaged in maintenance tasks.

Please note: The salary range listed in this job description is a base salary. Applicants eligible for years-of-service adjustments or shift differentials may exceed salary range listed above.

This position will be located at Montauk State Park, 345 County Road 6670, Salem, Mo. Shifts are primarily 7:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. (1 hour lunch break). Regular days off will be Saturday and Sunday but may vary with the time of the year to meet the needs of the facility. Must also work varying shifts depending on holiday, emergencies, and special events. This position requires working regular weekends, nights, and holidays.

  • Operate, maintain, and repair the park’s water and wastewater systems.
  • Responsible for performing a variety of semi-skilled work in the alteration, maintenance, and repair of state buildings and facilities.
  • Research, estimate, acquire bids and/or purchase materials for specific projects or repairs as needed.
  • Employee will work in a variety of trade areas such as electrical, plumbing, carpentry, concrete and masonry, painting, plastering, and mechanical repair in settings such as facilities, grounds, and cemeteries.
  • Routine cleaning of park buildings, restrooms, campsites, and park grounds.
  • Collaborate and problem-solve with team members and supervisors.
  • Participate in stewardship work to include prescribed fire, invasive/exotic species control, and trail maintenance. Must complete DSP Level 1 Prescribed Fire Training within the first 12 months of employment.
  • Maintain a valid vehicle operator’s license to operate and maintain licensed vehicles, as well as tractors, mowers, skid steer, and other grounds related equipment.
  • Operate and maintain lawn mowers, tractors, skid loader, trucks, chainsaws, leaf blowers, and similar mechanical equipment.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of park rules, regulations, procedures, and policies.
  • May oversee a crew engaged in maintenance tasks.
  • This position is required to obtain and maintain appropriate commercial operator’s license, water/wastewater certifications, and/or other required licenses/certification. This includes Drinking Water Distribution Level 1 (DS1) and Wastewater D certifications. If required and if you do not currently possess this license/certification, you will be given six months to obtain necessary license/certification.

  • Plumbing and Pipefitting: Knowledge of materials, methods, and the appropriate tools to install, maintain, or repair pipelines, pipe systems, and fixtures, including water, air, steam, gas, chemicals, or sewage.
  • Adaptability: Adjusts planned work by gathering relevant information and applying critical thinking to address multiple demands and competing priorities in a changing environment.
