Job summary

The City of Bonney Lake is seeking an experienced Maintenance Worker II to perform semi-skilled and skilled maintenance on City facilities and utilities, including water, sewer, streets, and drainage infrastructure.

This role requires a valid CDL Class A, a high school diploma, and successful background checks; the successful candidate will work under Public Works supervision and respond to emergencies as needed.

Qualifications

Description

This position performs a variety of semi-skilled and skilled maintenance work, and operates a variety of equipment in the construction, operation, repair, maintenance, and replacement of City facilities, water, sewer, street, and storm drainage infrastructure.

Supervision Received

Works under the day to day supervision of the assigned Public Works Crew Lead and general direction and supervision of the assigned Assistant Superintendent of Public Works.

Supervision Exercised

None. May provide guidance to temporary staff assigned to the division.

Essential Functions

The Maintenance Worker 2 is the intermediate-level position in the Maintenance Series. Incumbents are expected to have sufficient knowledge of construction, maintenance and repair procedures and practices and once trained, the duties require a high level of accuracy and knowledge of maintenance procedures and policies in which consequences of an error would be of great detriment. The incumbent independently performs routine to somewhat complex level of duties and maintenance work in the division to which they are assigned and requires the exercise of considerable independent judgment and action within the policies and procedures of the department.

Maintenance Worker II

Sanitary Sewer Division

Assist in the installation, repair, maintenance, and replacement of the various components of the public sewer collection system including, but not limited to: Sewer gravity and force mains, side sewer lines, manhole structures, emergency generators, grinder pump and lift station facilities, valves, and other sewer infrastructure.

Assist with utility locates for both city and developer/builder use.

Peripheral Duties

Able and willing to work any day or time during emergencies for snow/ice control work, natural disaster response and recovery or for other unscheduled emergencies. Assist other departments or divisions, as assigned.

Education, Experience And License Requirements/Competency Requirements

Education And Experience

High School graduate or equivalency, and;
Three (3) years' experience relating to construction, maintenance, and repair or with a public utility in a similar position OR three years' experience as a Maintenance Worker I with the City of Bonney Lake.
Valid Washington State Driver's License endorsed for CDL Class A
Successful passing of a background check, driving abstract, drug and alcohol screening
CPR/First Aid certification.
Washington State Traffic Control Flagger Card.
Confined Space Entry
Competent Person
Asbestos Pipe.
Experience with public utilities and computer skills are preferred.

Special Requirements

Waste Water Collections Personnel Association (WWCPA) I or
Washington Onsite Sewage Association (WOSSA) Septic O&M Technician
Flyght pump maintenance training.

Medical: Choice of Kaiser Permanente 200 or Regence Health First 250 administered by the Association of Washington Cities Employee Benefit Trust. Employee pays 5% for themselves and 15% per month toward the premium for all enrolled on the plan OR there is also a provision to participate in the premium cost savings program if they elect to not add themselves and/or dependents to the plan. The City also offers a High Deductible Health Plan with a Health Savings Account and that plan does not currently require any employee contributions.
Dental and Vision: Available through Washington State Council of County and City Employees (WSCCCE). City pays the full cost towards the premium for employee and dependents for WSCCCE Plan Ten (X) Dental Plan and the WSCCCE Vision Plan, which is currently administered through VSP.
Short Term Disability Insurance: Employee Paid through UEBT.
Long Term Disability: Employer paid through WSCCCE.
Life Insurance: Employer paid term $50,000 policy.

The core work week is forty (40) hours, Monday through Friday 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., although many departments have implemented alternative schedules for those employees wishing to work a flex schedule. Some positions require weekend, shift, holiday, and/or overtime.

The City of Bonney Lake provides a regular progression of salary increases for specific job classifications. Most positions provide for step increases on the anniversary of the employee's hiring date. Some City positions require union membership and salaries of employees falling under a collective bargaining agreement are adjusted according to conditions of the agreement.
