Responsibilities

• Performs general road maintenance and related activities including flagging traffic, mowing, asphalt repairs, pothole patching, concrete work, and debris removal.
• Cleans, lubricates, and performs preventive maintenance on equipment.
• Inspects and maintains assigned equipment in clean and operable condition.
• Places and removes cones and traffic barricades; directs traffic when needed.
• Installs concrete form work for streets and sidewalks.
• Trims and cuts trees; operates high-lift; handles debris shredding.
• Performs snow cleanup including snowplow operation and chemical spreading.
• Performs installation and cleanup after events, disasters, or accidents.
• Sweeps and shovels debris; moves heavy objects into trucks.
• Performs daily pre- and post-work safety checks on vehicles.
• Adheres to safety regulations in all activities and equipment use.
• Reports accidents and follows reporting policies.
• Completes work orders, activity reports, inspections, time sheets; maintains logs.
• Provides backup assistance to other department personnel as needed.
• Responds to on-call after-hours needs as assigned.
• Forms, mixes, pours, trowels, and finishes concrete and masonry for maintenance jobs.
• Installs and repairs street signs; lays out and paints pavement striping and markings.
• Operates construction equipment and tools safely for maintenance and construction tasks.

Job description

The position performs semi-skilled maintenance and repair tasks for the City, responsible for maintenance, construction and repair of City streets, sidewalks, rights-of-way, and other assignments to assist with overall department operations.

The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all inclusive.

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each duty satisfactorily. Other duties may be required and assigned. Not all duties may be assigned to each position. The allocation of duties for this position will be dependent upon the department/division assigned and qualification of assigned work/equipment.

• 1. Performs general road maintenance and related activities including flagging traffic, mowing, temporary and permanent asphalt surface repairs, patching holes, sawing pavement, concrete repair and pouring, clearing brush and trees, vegetation control, sweeping, routing and sealing road cracks, and removing dead animals and trash.
• 2. Cleans, lubricates, and performs preventive maintenance or repair on equipment.
• 3. Inspects and maintains assigned equipment; maintains equipment in clean and operating manner.
• 4. Places and removes cones and traffic barricades as warning devices to secure safety at work sites, directs traffic when necessary.
• 5. Installs concrete form work for streets and sidewalks.
• 6. Trims and cuts trees and shrubbery, removes tree trunks, operates high-lift, and shreds plant debris.
• 7. Performs activities related to snow cleanup to include operating snowplow truck, spreading chemicals, and shoveling as assigned.
• 8. Performs activities related to installation and clean up after special events, disasters, accidents, and other events.
• 9. Sweeps and shovels debris and litter, moving heavy objects and loading into trucks.
• 10. Performs pre and post work safety check of vehicle on a daily basis.
• 11. Ensures all activities are carried out in a safe manner; adheres to all safety regulations; ensures all regulations pertaining to the safe use of equipment are understood and followed.
• 12. Reports all accidents to the appropriate authority. Follows all policies for reporting.
• 13. Completes work orders, daily activity reports, inspection reports, and time sheets; maintains maintenance and service records/logs, and other pertinent information.
• 14. Provides backup assistance to other department personnel as needed.
• 15. Reports to work for on-call after hours needs, as assigned.
• 16. Forming, mixing, pouring, troweling and finishing concrete and masonry used in maintenance jobs.
• 17. Performs installation and repair of street signs and the layout and painting of pavement striping and marking.
• 18. Safely operates construction equipment, machinery, and tools for maintenance and construction related operations.
• 19. Other duties as assigned.

• 11. Ability to safely load, unload, and transport equipment to and from job sites.

• 13. Knowledge of computer software including word processing, spreadsheet and database applications consistent for this position.
