Job summary

Municipality of Anchorage is seeking a dedicated vehicle cleaner for the Public Transportation Department. You will clean interiors of buses, as well as exterior surfaces, and perform fueling and servicing tasks for staff, shop and 22' cutaway units.

Applicants must have a high school diploma or GED, experience with small hand tools and heavy manual labor, and a valid Alaska driver’s license. The job requires a 40-hour work week with varied shifts, including graveyard, under MOA terms.

  • Apply attention to detail to ensure a consistent level of cleaning across all vehicles.
  • Identify methods to improve efficiency while maintaining cleanliness and appearance of finishes.
  • Also cleans floors, equipment, and areas within the maintenance buildings.

This position isrepresented by the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 1547 (Technicians) andissubject to the provisions of the current agreement between the Municipality of Anchorage and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 1547 (Technicians).

DEPARTMENT:

Public Transportation

HOURS OF WORK:

Shifts vary, 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday / (Graveyard shift included)

LOCATION OF WORK:

3701 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Drive

Employees who are hired or rehired to any position shall be placed at the entrance pay step, and advancement from the entrance step to the maximum step within a pay grade shall be by successive steps.

To be considered for employment, applicants must be legally authorized to work and accept employment in the United States. The Municipality of Anchorage is not able to provide any type of sponsorship, including Student Visas and Employment Visas, under any circumstances.

Applicants shall be referred and considered for this position in the order as follows per the Collective Bargaining Agreement:

  1. Internal applicants currently working under the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers - Technicians (IBEW-Tech), Local 1547 Collective Bargaining Agreement
  2. Local union dispatched applicants
  3. External applicants and other current Municipal employees not covered under this agreement
Example of Duties

Responsible for the consistent and detailed cleaning of vehicle interiors on Public Transportation Department buses. Clean exterior and interior, fuel, and service the staff, shop and cutaways (22' units). Provide consistent methods to effectively clean a variety of finishes. Apply attention to detail to ensure that all vehicles receive a consistent level of cleaning. Identify methods and techniques to improve the efficiency while maintaining cleanliness and appearance of finishes. Also cleans floors, equipment, and areas within the maintenance buildings. Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications / Substitutions / Preferences

High school diploma, GED, or equivalent

and

experience in the operation of small hand tools and performing unskilled heavy manual labor.

All applicants must possess and/or obtain:

  • Valid State of Alaska Driver’s License with satisfactory driving record at time of hire.
  • Satisfactory background check which includes criminal, education, and employment history at time of hire.
  • Physical examination (including full Functional Capacity Evaluation with audiogram at time of hire).

If selected for hire, the appointment in this position will be conditional based upon a satisfactory background check. A background check encompasses criminal history, verifying education, and verifying dates of employment.

If selected for hire, appointment in this position will be conditional based upon the submission of a current copy of the applicant's State of Alaska Driver's License Also, required is the submission of a current copy (dated within 30 days from date requested) of his/her Department of Motor Vehicle driving record, including a driving record from previous states if the Alaska driver's license was first issued within one year prior to application, documenting an acceptable driving history. The processing fee(s) are the responsibility of the selected applicant.

All required certifications and licenses must remain current for the duration of employment.

Military Service Interview Preference:

Veterans or who wish to be considered for interview preference as permitted in Municipal Personnel Rules 3.30.031 D must attach to the application a copy of their DD Form 214, DD Form 256, NGB Form 22, or a letter from the US Department of Veterans Affairs recognizing the person as a veteran. The attached documentation must show an honorable discharge or general (under honorable conditions) discharge. The minimum qualifications of the position must be met for preference consideration.

Individuals currently serving as a member in good standing in the National Guard or the organized military reserves who wish to be considered for interview preference as permitted in Municipal Personnel Rules 3.30.031 D must attach proof of current service to the application. Proof of current service can be shown by submission of a statement of service which, at a minimum, shows full name, date of birth, Social Security Number, date service began, branch of service, rank, name of command providing the information, and unit of assignment. The statement of service must be on a form or letterhead of the individual’s command organization and show the name, signature, title and contact information for the signer providing the statement of service. The minimum qualifications of the position must be met for preference consideration.
