Job summary

The Municipality of Anchorage is seeking a Parks and Recreation worker to maintain parks, trails, and recreation facilities across the city. You will assist with events, winter ice rinks, snow removal, and summer grounds maintenance.

The role requires attention to safety, physical stamina, and willingness to perform varied outdoor tasks. Applicants must have a Alaska driver’s license and pass a background check; hiring is in accordance with Local 71 bargaining agreement.

Qualifications

  • Three (3) months experience in lawn, landscape, trails, construction, grounds, or facility maintenance.
  • Must possess a valid State of Alaska Driver’s License with satisfactory driving record at time of hire.
  • Employment is conditional based on a satisfactory background check which includes criminal, education, and employment history.

Job Information

Open to any current Municipal employee within the Parks & Recreation Department.

These positionsare represented by the Public Employees, Local 71 and are subject to the provisions of the current agreement between the Municipality of Anchorage and Public Employees, Local 71.

DEPARTMENT

: Parks andRecreation

HOURS OF WORK

Monday through Thursday 6:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

1/2 hour lunch

LOCATION

: 12001 Business Blvd, Suite 123, Eagle River

This position is represented by the Public Employees, Local 71, and is subject to the provisions of the current agreement between the Municipality of Anchorage and the Union.

Employees who are hired or rehired to any position shall be placed at the entrance pay step, and advancement from the entrance step to the maximum step within a pay grade shall be by successive steps.

To be considered for employment, applicants must be legally authorized to work and accept employment in the United States. The Municipality of Anchorage is not able to provide any type of sponsorship, including Student Visas and Employment Visas, under any circumstances.

Applicants shall be referred and considered for this position in the order as follows per the Collective Bargaining Agreement:

Internal applicants currently working under the Public Employees (Local 71) Collective Bargaining Agreement

Local union dispatched applicants

External applicants and other current Municipal employees not covered under this agreement

Example of Duties

This position will maintain parks, sports facilities, outdoor recreation facilities, trails and municipality owned grounds. Assist with various events. Winter duties may include, but are not limited to maintaining ice rinks, ski trails, park equipment, and removing snow from trails, parking lots and roadways. Summer duties may include, but are not limited to collection of litter, mowing turf, cleaning and repairing bike trails, repairing playground equipment, vandalized parks, and maintaining sports fields. Requires knowledge of light equipment and small tool operation. Other duties as assigned.

All required certifications and/or licenses must remain current for the duration of employment.

As a condition of employment, the candidate selected must provide their Union Dispatch Referral Form by the time of hire.

Military Service Interview Preference

Veterans who wish to be considered for interview preference, as permitted in Municipal Personnel Rules 3.30.031 D, must attach to the application a copy of their DD Form 214, DD Form 256, NGB Form 22, or a letter from the US Department of Veterans Affairs, recognizing the person as a veteran. The attached documentation must show an honorable discharge or general (under honorable conditions) discharge. The minimum qualifications of the position must be met for preference consideration.

Individuals currently serving as a member in good standing in the National Guard or the organized military reserves who wish to be considered for interview preference, as permitted in Municipal Personnel Rules 3.30.031 D, must attach proof of current service to the application. Proof of current service can be shown by submission of a statement of service which, at a minimum, shows the full name, date of birth, Social Security Number, date service began, branch of service, rank, name of command providing the information, and unit of assignment.The statement of service must be on a form or letterhead of the individual’s command organization, and shows the name, signature, title, and contact information of the signer providing the statement of service. The minimum qualifications of the position must be met for preference consideration.
