Job summary

The Boys’ Club of New York Inc. is seeking a maintenance worker to oversee upkeep of the clubhouse facilities and systems. You will perform skilled tasks across plumbing, electrical, carpentry, HVAC, and related areas, with the ability to lift heavy loads and operate maintenance machinery.

Duties include cleaning, painting, repairs, and daily coordination with the Maintenance Superintendent, along with attending staff meetings and supporting club operations.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED required.
  • 4+ years of maintenance or cleaning experience.
  • Must be a team player and able to complete tasks on schedule.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate maintenance equipment and machinery.
  • Able to handle physically demanding tasks and lift over 50 pounds.
  • Knowledge of electrical, plumbing and HVAC systems preferred.
  • Pool maintenance experience is desirable.
  • Hands-on with tools; eager to learn on the job.

Responsibilities

  • Perform skilled maintenance in plumbing, electrical, carpentry, HVAC, or related areas as needed.
  • Participate in annual clubhouse cleaning, painting, and end-of-summer repairs.
  • Paint and repair equipment and facilities as assigned.
  • Coordinate with Maintenance Superintendent on daily tasks.
  • Report damage to physical plant to Maintenance Superintendent immediately.
  • Attend staff meetings and complete assigned tasks.
  • Clean furniture, bathrooms, windows, walls, and floors; remove trash as needed.

Summary of Position

Maintenance workers are responsible for the maintenance and care of clubhouse facilities and equipment by possessing demonstrated skills to complete specific tasks related to plumbing, electrical work, carpentry, HVAC, or other areas of maintenance expertise. The ability to operate equipment and machinery and lift in excess of 50 pounds is required. Additionally, maintenance workers must perform general cleaning services internal and external to the Clubhouse on a daily basis.

Major Duties and Responsibilities
  • Perform skilled maintenance work in the areas of plumbing, electrical work, carpentry, HVAC, and/or other specific areas of expertise as needed in the Clubhouse.
  • Participate in the annual Clubhouse general cleaning, painting, and repair period at the end of the summer.
  • Paint and repair plant and equipment on an on-going basis as assigned by the Maintenance Superintendent.
  • Check with the Maintenance Superintendent daily for special and/or additional work duties that must be completed.
  • Report all damage to the physical plant and other related breakage and malfunction to the Maintenance Superintendent immediately upon discovery.
  • Perform any additional services as requested by the Maintenance Superintendent, Clubhouse Director or Associate Clubhouse Director.
  • Attend Clubhouse and Agency-wide Staff meetings as required.
  • Clean furniture, bathrooms, windows, walls, stairwells, lights, and equipment (e.g., pool tables) and all other elements assigned in a specific area of the Clubhouse; remove trash and other items to be discarded; dust, mop, and wax the floors, and clean equipment as needed or as may be assigned by the Maintenance Superintendent, Clubhouse Director, or Associate Clubhouse Director.
  • Complete external maintenance tasks and perform preventive work inside and outside the Clubhouse.
Education and/or Experience

High School diploma or GED; minimum four years’ experience performing cleaning and more skilled maintenance tasks; Must be a team player; Ability and willingness to complete tasks on schedule; Demonstrated ability to operate maintenance equipment and machinery; Ability to work on a variety of physically-demanding tasks and able to lift in excess of 50 pounds; Knowledge of building electrical, plumbing, and HVAC systems as well as boilers and other elements; Experience cleaning and maintaining an indoor swimming pool desirable; Handy with tools and possess a technical aptitude; Demonstrated desire to learn on the job and advance skills; Willing to work a flexible and demanding schedule.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of finishes, fixtures and furnishings; Identification/Understanding of Structural/Mechanical/Electrical Systems; Follow documented instructions/guidelines; Identification of repair or replacement needs beyond normal maintenance or servicing; Routine/Preventive Maintenance.
