As a Maintenance Worker for the City of Springfield, you will have the opportunity to serve the community working in various departments such as Environmental Services or Public Works. Maintenance Workers assist in the repair and maintenance of city streets, sewers, waterways, bridges, parks, right-of-ways, watersheds, grounds, and other city property. They also operate equipment such as dump trucks, salt spreaders, snow plows, and similar machinery.

Experience, Education, and Training

• A minimum of one year of experience (or 6 months if you have direct City of Springfield experience) operating dump trucks, flusher trucks, skid-steer loaders, front-end loaders, or similar equipment;

OR

• One year of maintenance or construction work in areas such as street/road work, grounds work, sports fields, agriculture, or sewer/utility line work, comparable to work in the Parks, Environmental Services & Public Works Departments.

Licensing/Certification

• Must pass the written portion of the Commercial Drivers License (CDL) exam within 90 days of hire.
• A class "B" CDL must be obtained within the probationary period.
• Some assignments require the ability to operate vehicles with airbrakes.
• Endorsements such as tanker or class "A" license may be required for certain roles.
• Must obtain and maintain CPR and First Aid Certification within the probationary period.
