Job summary

Scott AFB Lodging Facility is seeking a flexible maintenance technician to perform repairs inside and around lodging units. You’ll handle electrical, plumbing, and general carpentry tasks, using meters and hand tools while complying with Air Force safety standards.

This non-appropriated fund position requires light to moderate physical work, shift coverage as needed, and a background check. The role offers 0-40 hours per week with potential for additional hours based on mission needs.

Qualifications

  • Experience in general repair and maintenance across plumbing, electrical, carpentry.
  • Skilled in electrical/electronic maintenance with test equipment.
  • Ability to read schematics and diagrams and use common tools.

  • Perform routine repairs and maintenance of electrical, plumbing, and related systems.
  • Inspect and troubleshoot equipment; follow Air Force regulations and CE guidelines.
  • Operate power/tools and maintain safe working environment.

Job description

About the position: This position is Non-appropriated Fund (NAF) and will be assigned to the Scott AFB Lodging Facility.. This is a flexible position, 0-40 hours per week. Working Conditions: Mostly inside, unsanitary conditions disagreeable odors, and subject to cuts and abrasions from use of power and hand tools. Exposed to solvents, cleaning agents, acids, etc.

Major Duties
  • Repairs or replaces light bulbs, light fixtures, electrical outlets, light switches, and ceiling fans with light kits, etc. Inspects and performs maintenance and minor repairs on television sets, VCR's, refrigerators, stoves, washers, dryers, and other electrical equipment and components using a variety of electrical/electronic testing equipment. Accomplishes electrical work to comply with Air Force regulations and inspection by CE electricians when warranted. Performs maintenance and/or repair of plumbing to include installing copper pipes or PVC valves when components need replacing. Installs new standpipe and float mechanisms in toilets with water closets. Removes, cleans, packs and seals defective parts on such things as, but not |limited to, dirty traps, sections of broken tile pipe, leaky drain and faucets. Troubleshoots heating/cooling system to determine compressor activity and electrical operation. Must have knowledge and technical expertise to assemble, install, and maintain ice machines. Reads schematic; if necessary, uses proper size electrical wire and wires the machine according to schematic; if necessary, plumbs in water source, installs ice machines.
Conditions of Employment
  • This position requires the incumbent to complete a background investigation with favorable results.
  • This is a drug testing designated position. The incumbent must pass a pre-employment drug test and is subject to random drug testing.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license and be able to drive. If selected for this position, incumbent will be required to provide a copy of their Official Driving Record.
  • Must complete a pre-employment physical and able to lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if the position allows for qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application.

Qualifying Experience:
  • Must have general repair and maintenance experience in a variety of areas including common household plumbing, painting, and plastering, electrical and carpentry.
  • Must have specialized experience in the field of electrical/electronic or similar maintenance, which required the use of test equipment such as multi meters, volumeters, or other similar test equipment.
  • Must have the ability to use a variety of common hand and power tools and have experience in reading schematics and diagrams.
  • Must satisfactorily complete a pre-employment physical.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license and a good driving record.
  • Must satisfactorily complete a background check.
  • This is a drug testing position.
  • The incumbent is subject to random testing for drug use.
  • Position is mission essential.
Education

This position does not allow for education substitution.
