Summary

This position is assigned to the MWR Recreation Lodging operation Naval Weapons Station Earle, NJ. MWR Recreational Lodging offers accommodations for Recreational Vehicle (RV) Parks, Vacation Rentals and Campgrounds.

This position is assigned to the MWR Recreation Lodging operation Naval Weapons Station Earle, NJ. MWR Recreational Lodging offers accommodations for Recreational Vehicle (RV) Parks, Vacation Rentals and Campgrounds.

The purpose of this position is to provide assistance with facilities maintenance work by performing simple and routine tasks in two or more skilled trades: plumbing; washer/dryer repair; heating, ventilation, and air-conditioning (HVAC); electrical; carpentry; and/or painting.

Duties
  • Executes maintenance related tasks requiring the use of skills associated with a variety of trades.
  • Performs recurring assignments, e.g. follows up on maintenance requests reported by guests, housekeeping or front desk.
  • Maintains work order log and follow up as required.
  • Reports status to supervisor.
  • Logs trouble calls with contractor as appropriate.
  • Incumbent assists in performing work in at least two of the following trades in the maintenance and repair of buildings and related fixtures:
    • Plumbing: Assists in making plumbing repairs to sinks, faucets, commodes, tanks, urinals, P-traps, shut-off valves on washing machines and water supply that can be accomplished by removing, cleaning, resealing, replacing defective parts or units, installing water heaters, garbage disposals, faucets and sinks.
    • Washer/Dryer repair: Assists in performing routine maintenance of washers and dryers to include cleaning lint ducts and vents, replacing hoses and fittings as required and referring more complex problems to supervisor for action.
    • HVAC: Assists in recognizing the cause of faulty equipment and assists with making repairs on a variety of HVAC units as appropriate.
    • Electrical: Assists in recognizing and reporting electrical problems. Assists with repairs as appropriate. Replaces fluorescent and incandescent ballasts, bulbs and tubes.
    • Carpentry: Assists in basic carpentry repairs such as repairing or replacing screens, window and doorframes, and molding and trim; and repair and replacement of drywall or similar products.
    • Painting: Assists in preparation of areas and standard coating methods such brushing, rolling and spraying and ensure surfaces are fully coated, protected and free from drips and runs.
  • Ensures security of all guests is maintained at all times.
  • Ensures guest privacy is maintained at all times.
Requirements
  • Must pass all applicable records and background check.
  • Must successfully pass the E-Verify employment verification check. Any discrepancies must be resolved as a condition of employment.
  • Must meet federal suitability requirements including successful completion of background investigation.
  • This position may be designated ALPHA personnel for inclement weather or in the interest of national security and may be required to report to work when other employees are excused.
  • This position is subject to the possibility of irregular schedule including but not limited to: weekends, holidays, rotating shifts, nights. The incumbent may be recalled to duty and/or required to work overtime, including on an emergency basis.
Qualifications

A qualified candidate must possess:

  • Knowledge of the specified types of work involved with the various occupational trades persons assisted.
  • Knowledge of safety and environmental rules and regulations concerning procedures, equipment, commonly used chemicals and basic safety.
  • Knowledge of the basic materials utilized in the performance of the various repair and maintenance activities in conjunction with the journeyman trades persons.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively both verbally and in writing in English.
  • Ability to carry out assigned work in accordance with instructions and specification in assisting journeyman level workers.
  • Ability to use and maintain the basic tools and equipment pertinent to the various occupations.

There is no positive education requirement for this position.
