Job description

About the Position:

You will function as a Maintenance Worker Helper/Maintenance Worker, performing a wide variety of duties involved in the operation, maintenance, and repair of facilities, equipment, structures, buildings, and grounds. These positions are located in Louisville, KY.

Duties
  1. Performs routine maintenance on mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems associated with assigned facilities equipment.
  2. Performs general carpentry work related to maintaining assigned facilities.
  3. Maintains existing plumbing systems, including water closets, fixtures, and drains.
  4. Assists in installing, maintaining, and repairing various piping systems and fixtures.
  5. Makes repairs by removing, adjusting, or replacing defective or worn parts and components.
  6. Uses power tools such as table saws, drills, joiners, sanders, and power nailers.
  7. Operates forklifts on uneven conditions to unload vehicles and move materials in outside storage yards.
Requirements
  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position is covered by the Civilian Drug Abuse Testing Program. Incumbent is required to sign a DA Form 5019-R "Condition of Employment for Certain Civilian Positions Identified as Critical under the Drug Abuse Testing Program".
  • Pre-employment drug test required and enrollment in the army random drug testing program.
  • May require working hours on all shifts, including weekends and holidays.
  • Must successfully complete a pre-employment physical.
  • Must be able to occasionally lift in excess of 50 pounds.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid State motor vehicle operator's license.
Qualifications

This is a TERM position, temporary and extendable up to eight years. It may be converted to a permanent position if all requirements are met, including completing at least 2 years of continuous service under a term appointment with a performance rating of at least fully successful.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element):

Ability to perform the work of a Maintenance Worker without more than normal supervision.

WG-08 Level: Maintenance Worker:

Perform various maintenance duties under close supervision, operate heavy equipment, and perform repairs and maintenance tasks.

WG-05 Level: Maintenance Worker Helper:

Perform basic maintenance repairs, operate motor vehicles, and use power tools after training.

Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in ineligible rating.

Physical Effort and Working Conditions
  • Requires considerable physical effort, including lifting items weighing 50 to 100 pounds, working from ladders and scaffolds, and working in various environmental conditions.
  • Work is performed outdoors and in challenging environments, with safety equipment used as required.
