Job description

About this position:

This position is assigned to the Water Resources Division, Operations Branch at the Gathright Dam Project Office outside Covington, Virginia and conducts maintenance duties to include grounds maintenance, carpentry, plumbing, painting, and vehicle/vessel operation.

This is a developmental position. You may be selected at the WG-5 or WG-7 grade level at management discretion. Full Performance Level is WG-07.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): WG 5:

Ability to do the work of a Maintenance Worker without more than general supervision. Operate, repair, and maintain the dam and appurtenant structures and maintain the project buildings and recreational facilities.

Operate, repair, and maintain the dam and appurtenant structures and maintain the project buildings and recreational facilities and operate and maintain a variety of vehicle and vessels such as sedan, pickup trucks, tractors, forklifts, and motorboats.

PHYSICAL EFFORT:

Uses moderate physical effort to stack, load, unload, move and carry tools, equipment and materials ranging in weight from 10 lbs to 50 lbs unassisted. Occasionally lifts heavier objects with assistance (e.g., using a hand truck). Required to reach, walk, stand, stoop, bend, kneel, crawl and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Occasionally works in cramped quarters, or from ladders, scaffolds or platforms.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Work is performed inside and outside in all types of weather (e.g., heat, cold, rain, wind, etc.) and usually in a dirty, dusty and/or greasy environment. Incumbent is exposed to the possibility of broken bones, electrical shocks, burns, cuts bruises, maimed fingers and scrapes. Occasionally is required to wear uncomfortable protective clothing.
