Job summary

The US Army Corps of Engineers seeks a Maintenance Worker at the Gathright Dam to perform regular maintenance, inspections, and repairs on the dam and related facilities. You will operate a variety of vehicles and vessels and may be required to obtain boat and forklift licenses within the first year.

Job description

Requirements
Conditions of employment
  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Incumbent is required to have a valid state driver's license.
  • Incumbent is required to obtain and maintain a boat operators and a forklift operator's license within their first 12 months of employment.
  • Ability to work nights and/or weekends depending on the needs of the project to which the employee is assigned.
  • Incumbent is required to work in adverse weather conditions (e.g., heat, cold, rain, wind, etc.).
  • May be required to have a valid CPR certificate and first responder (or equivalent) certificate.
  • May be required to work in both non-permit and permit required confined space and implement proper rescue and entry techniques.
  • Position requires a pre-employment physical examination.
  • Position requires a pre-employment drug test and random drug/alcohol tests thereafter.
  • May be required to be properly trained and/or operate the following equipment: Self Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA's), escape packs, atmospheric monitoring devices and fall protection equipment.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): WG 5:

Ability to do the work of a Maintenance Worker without more than general supervision. Operate, repair, and maintain the dam and appurtenant structures and maintain the project buildings and recreational facilities.

PHYSICAL EFFORT

Uses moderate physical effort to stack, load, unload, move and carry tools, equipment and materials ranging in weight from 10 lbs to 50 lbs unassisted. Occasionally lifts heavier objects with assistance (e.g., using a hand truck). Required to reach, walk, stand, stoop, bend, kneel, crawl and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Occasionally works in cramped quarters, or from ladders, scaffolds or platforms.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Work is performed inside and outside in all types of weather (e.g., heat, cold, rain, wind, etc.) and usually in a dirty, dusty and/or greasy environment. Incumbent is exposed to the possibility of broken bones, electrical shocks, burns, cuts bruises, maimed fingers and scrapes. Occasionally is required to wear uncomfortable protective clothing.
