Job summary

City of Harker Heights seeks a Water and Sewer Technician to perform construction, repair, and maintenance on water and sewer lines. You will operate jackhammers, mowers, and power saws, read meters, and assist in installing lines.

A CDL-B within 6 months and Texas Water Distribution/Collections certifications within one to three years are required, with a minimum of six months construction experience. Attendance is essential.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED is required.
• Must obtain Texas CDL-B within six months of hire.
• Must obtain Texas D Water Distribution and Texas Collections I Certification within one year and Texas C within three years.

Responsibilities

• Operates a jackhammer, lawn mower, power saw, tapping machine, chain saw, hand tools, light trucks, and assists vactor truck.
• Performs preventative maintenance on tools and equipment.
• Assists in installing and maintaining water and sewer lines.
• Loads and unloads materials; performs yard clean-up and related duties.
• Performs after-hours standby duty and on-call rotation.
• Assists other departments as required.

Job description

Performs construction, repair, and maintenance work on sewer and water lines; operates equipment and performs extensive manual labor; reads meters; performs related work as required.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED:

Works under the general supervision of the Water Field Supervisor or the on-site supervisor.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED:

None.

• Operates a jackhammer, lawn mower, power saw, tapping machine, chain saw, hand tools, light trucks, and assists vactor truck.
• Performs preventative maintenance on tools and equipment.
• Performs minor painting, plumbing, and maintenance.
• Cleans and stocks the truck.
• Loads and unloads various materials; performs yard clean-up and all other duties assigned.
• Performs after-hours standby duty and serves on rotation of duty phone.
• Assists in installing and maintaining water and sewer lines.
• Assists other departments as required.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

High school diploma or GED. Must be able to obtain Texas CDL-B within six (6) months from date of hire. Must be able to obtain a Texas "D" Water Distribution and Texas Collections I Certification within one (1) year from date of hire and must be able to obtain a Texas "C" Water Distribution Certification within three (3) years from date of hire.

A minimum of six (6) months experience in performing construction work requiring the use of equipment similar to or the same as assigned to this position.
