Job summary

City of Harker Heights is seeking a Street, Drainage & Sanitation Worker to perform construction, repair and maintenance on sewer and water lines. You will operate equipment, read meters, and conduct preventive maintenance while performing related tasks as needed.

The role requires a high school diploma or GED and the ability to obtain a Texas CDL-B within six months of hire. A minimum of six months of construction experience with similar equipment is expected.

Qualifications

• Must obtain Texas CDL-B within six months of hire.
• Minimum six months experience in construction work with similar equipment.

Responsibilities

• Operate jackhammer, lawn mower, power saw, tapping machine, chain saw, and backhoe as assigned.
• Perform meter and component maintenance.
• Assist in installing and maintaining water/sewer lines; repair wastewater mains and manholes.
• Conduct preventative maintenance on tools and equipment.
• Handle minor painting, plumbing, and general maintenance tasks.
• Clean and stock the work truck.
• Load/unload materials; perform yard cleanup and related duties.
• Step in for after-hours standby and rotation of duty phone.
• Assist other departments as required.
• Perform other duties as assigned; attendance is essential.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED:

Works under the general supervision of the Street, Drainage & Sanitation Field Supervisor or on-site supervisor.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED:

None.

1. Operates a jackhammer, lawn mower, power saw, tapping machine, chain saw, hand tools, light trucks, assist with sewer cleaning machine, and operates a backhoe.
2. Performs maintenance on meters and other components.
3. Assists in installing and maintaining water and sewer lines; repairs wastewater main and manholes.
4. Performs preventative maintenance on tools and equipment.
5. Performs minor painting, plumbing, and maintenance.
6. Cleans and stocks the truck.
7. Loads and unloads various materials; performs yard clean-up and all other duties assigned.
8. Performs after-hours standby duty and serves on rotation of duty phone.
9. Assists other departments as required.
10. Performs other duties as assigned.
