Position Requirements and Responsibilities

• Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent, be at least 18 years old, and hold a valid NC Class "C" driver’s license.
• This position supports department operations through maintenance duties, including manufacturing, installing, maintaining, and repairing traffic signs.
• Install and maintain thermoplastic markings, legends, and high-performance markings.
• Install traffic counters and establish safe work zones on streets.
• Assist in preparing for special events and remove materials from rights-of-way.
• Perform preventative maintenance on equipment and vehicles, attend training sessions, and perform other related duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Knowledge of traffic control device installation, maintenance, and repair techniques, including familiarity with the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices.
• Skill in manufacturing and installing traffic signs, operating equipment like hydraulic post pullers, truck-mounted cranes, and pneumatic spray guns.
• Ability to perform mathematical calculations, communicate effectively both orally and in writing, and read/write at a high school level or equivalent.
• No prior experience required; possession or ability to obtain a valid NC driver’s license is necessary.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

The role requires frequent standing, walking, handling tools and equipment, reaching, climbing, and lifting over 100 pounds. The work is predominantly outdoors, exposing employees to traffic, noise, dust, weather, and machinery with moving parts. After-hours work may be necessary during emergencies or inclement weather.

This position is classified as safety-sensitive and involves participation in a random drug testing program. The work environment includes exposure to outdoor elements, machinery, and traffic.
