This position involves semi-skilled work in the construction, maintenance, and repair of water and sewer utility lines and taps, along with other duties as assigned. Applicants must be able to perform heavy manual work outdoors in varying weather conditions, possess a high school diploma or equivalent, be at least 18 years old, and hold a valid NC Class C driver’s license.

Salary depends on qualifications.

Responsibilities include conducting traffic control at job sites, operating crew vehicles, installing water and sewer taps, assisting with loading trucks, locating underground utilities, repairing water main breaks, installing and repairing water meters, hydrants, valves, and performing jetting functions to clean lines. Additional duties include building maintenance, patching utility road cuts, and operating manual transmission vehicles and light equipment.

Requirements include reading, writing, basic math skills, effective communication, and the ability to work independently or in teams, including flexible scheduling and working in inclement weather.

Supervisory work is minimal, with work assigned by a crew leader and guided by city policies and procedures. The work scope involves related duties in water system maintenance, with complexity added by weather conditions.

This role's purpose is to ensure the safe, reliable, and cost-effective operation of the water distribution system, involving physical demands such as lifting over 100 pounds, climbing, and operating various tools and equipment. It is a safety-sensitive position subject to drug testing and requires outdoor work in various weather conditions, with exposure to noise, dust, chemicals, and machinery.

No supervisory or management responsibilities are associated with this position.
