Job description

The City of Takoma Park is seeking Seasonal Maintenance Technicians to perform routine maintenance tasks for the Public Works Department, including mowing, gardening, and other Vegetation Maintenance duties. The employees in this position are expected to be active through October 2025 and may work up to 40 hours per week, as assigned. This position is not eligible for AFSCME union membership.

Typical Duties Include:

1. Operating gas and electric mowing and trimming equipment in City rights of way and parks;
2. Routine maintenance of mowing equipment;
3. Hand weeding, mulching, garden maintenance, and planting in City parks, gardens, bioretention facilities, and rights of way;
4. Removing trash and debris from City rights of way and parks, storm drain inlets and pipes;
5. Watering new plantings;
6. Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities required:

• High school diploma or GED;
• Three months to one year of experience in gardening, landscaping, or outdoor manual labor; or
• Any combination of education, training, and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job;
• Preferred: A current driver's license.

The hourly wage for this position is $19 per hour. A first review of resumes is expected to begin on April 7; the position will remain open until filled.
