Job description

The Maintenance Technician III supports FedEx industrial maintenance of material handling systems, focusing on preventative and predictive maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs. The role involves utilizing prescribed processes related to mechanical power transmission, electrical systems, PLC/controls, welding/fabrication, and other industrial maintenance systems. Troubleshooting component and system issues may also be required.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Under minimal supervision, performs preventative and predictive maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs on material handling systems, demonstrating proficiency in mechanical power transmission and electrical systems, with working knowledge of PLC/controls and welding/fabrication.
  • Adheres to safety standards, attends safety meetings and trainings, and addresses safety concerns to promote a safe work environment.
  • Interprets electrical/mechanical schematics, manuals, and specifications to troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair system faults or escalate issues.
  • Responds to calls to diagnose problems and make repairs.
  • Utilizes Enterprise Asset Management (EAM) software for data entry and retrieval.
  • Diagnoses and troubleshoots mechanical, electrical, and PLC/control failures, potentially relying on higher-level technicians for complex control system issues.
  • Begins to read PLC programs and burn EEPROMs.
  • Assists lower-level technicians and begins developing scopes of work and project plans for small projects.
  • May work flexible schedules, including all days and shifts as required.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES AT TECH III LEVEL

Mechanical

  • Understanding of power transmission, mechanical design, and ability to interpret and modify mechanical drawings.

Electrical

  • Using digital multimeters, troubleshooting motor controls, and modifying electrical schematics.

PLC/Controls

  • Online troubleshooting of PLCs, burning EEPROMs, understanding PLC networks.

Welding and Fabrication

  • Proficiency in MIG, stick, TIG welding, understanding different weld types, and using machining tools.

MINIMUM EDUCATION

  • High School Diploma or GED required; certificates or associate degrees preferred.

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE

  • Four (4) years in industrial maintenance with relevant skills and knowledge, including military experience or related education.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Ability to follow procedures, interpret schematics, troubleshoot, communicate effectively, and collaborate with teams. Software skills in Microsoft Office and web applications. Strong time management and organizational skills.

JOB CONDITIONS

  • Use of hand and power tools, working in temperature extremes, and physical activities like standing, walking, bending, and squatting.

Preferred Qualifications and Additional Details

Shift details: KCMO - Shift E - Nights and weekends, 12-hour shifts.
