Job Title: Maintenance Technician III

Job Description

The Mechanic installs, troubleshoots, repairs, and maintains material handling equipment, including automated systems such as AutoStore and conveyor systems, within a high-volume distribution center. This role performs both minor and major repairs, executes scheduled preventive maintenance, and ensures safe and reliable operation of production and facility equipment. The position also supports building systems maintenance, responds to emergency maintenance requests, and contributes to continuous improvement of maintenance processes.

Responsibilities

• Perform minor and major repairs on all material handling equipment, including AutoStore systems, conveyor systems, and related mechanical components.

• Carry out scheduled preventive maintenance on conveyors and other mechanical equipment by inspecting belts, checking fluid levels, replacing filters, greasing bearings and seals, and repairing or replacing worn or broken parts.

• Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and control issues on production and facility equipment to quickly identify root causes and restore operation.

• Coordinate and support external contractors and vendors involved in the installation, commissioning, and maintenance of building and facility systems.

• Complete daily, weekly, and monthly maintenance checklists and accurately maintain records of all scheduled maintenance procedures and activities.

• Comply with all applicable laws, regulations, and safety requirements, including maintaining required HAZMAT records and documentation related to maintenance activities.

• Respond promptly and professionally to management and internal customer inquiries, researching and resolving issues related to facility operations and equipment performance.

• Operate computer systems and software that control and monitor mechanical equipment and utility systems, as needed.

• Respond to emergency maintenance requests, including unplanned breakdowns, to minimize downtime and maintain operational continuity.

• Obtain estimates for supplies and repair parts, and order parts and materials as needed to support maintenance activities.

• Recommend improvements to maintenance programs, processes, and procedures to enhance equipment reliability and efficiency.

• Operate powered lift equipment and support proper equipment lockout/tagout procedures to ensure safe maintenance practices.

• Perform general maintenance and janitorial duties as needed to support overall facility upkeep.

• Perform outside custodial tasks such as snow removal and other seasonal or exterior maintenance duties as required.

• Check out tools and equipment as needed for maintenance tasks and ensure they are returned in proper working condition.

• Maintain regular and prompt attendance and work overtime as required, including potential weekend shifts, to support operational needs.

Essential Skills

• High school diploma or equivalent.

• 2–6 years of maintenance experience, including the use of hand and power tools.

• Hands-on experience with conveyor maintenance and material handling systems.

• Ability to troubleshoot and repair mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems.

• Experience with preventive maintenance programs for production and facility equipment.

• Ability to perform electrical troubleshooting, including working with three-phase power and electrical motors.

• Familiarity with PLC troubleshooting and PLC-controlled systems.

• Ability to read and interpret schematics, drawings, and technical documentation.

• Strong organizational skills with the ability to self-motivate and take initiative.

• Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team environment.

• Strong service orientation with courteous, responsive communication to internal stakeholders.

• Basic math skills, including the ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide all units of measure, and compute rate, ratio, and percent.

• Ability to interpret various drawings and schematics to support maintenance and repair activities.

• Capability to operate warehouse equipment and powered industrial trucks, with willingness to complete and maintain lift operator certification in line with OSHA guidelines.

• Commitment to regular and prompt attendance and flexibility to work overtime, including weekends, as required.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience maintaining automated robotic systems such as AutoStore or similar technologies.

• Experience in industrial maintenance or service in a distribution, warehouse, or industrial environment.

• Experience using hand tools and power tools safely and efficiently in a maintenance setting.

• Familiarity with maintenance repair practices and industrial maintenance standards.

• Ability to operate and monitor computer-based control systems for mechanical and utility equipment.

• Experience working near moving machinery and conveyor systems in a fast-paced environment.

• Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks, follow checklists, and maintain accurate maintenance records.

• Willingness to perform general maintenance and janitorial duties in addition to core mechanical responsibilities.

Work Environment

This role is based in a distribution center and warehouse environment where you will spend most of your time on your feet and remaining alert around active operations. You will regularly lift or move up to 60 pounds and perform frequent bending, twisting, and pulling while working near conveyor systems and moving parts. The environment is hectic and fast-paced, with moderate noise levels and continuous operation of powered equipment. You may operate powered industrial trucks and other powered equipment and may be required to wear a headset and personal protective equipment, including a protective harness, while operating equipment. Steel-toe boots and hard hats are not required, and all tools needed for the role are provided by the employer.

Job Type & Location

This is a Permanent position based out of Ashland, VA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $54080.00 - $68640.00/yr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
