Maintenance Technician II 2nd Shift (WL)

At Richelieu Foods we make Great Food from Great People. We are looking for a Maintenance Technician II on 2nd shift to provide support and solutions in our ever changing food manufacturing environment.

Job Summary: The Maintenance Technician is responsible for performing routine maintenance and repairs on equipment and machinery. This role also requires responding to emergency repair requests when issues arise during our production runs.

Essential Functions:

  1. Troubleshoots mechanical electrical and PLC components, finding resolutions to issues in a safe and timely manner.
  2. Fabricates, disassembles and assembles production equipment to gain access to and remove defective parts.
  3. Designs and fabricates new equipment to meet production needs.
  4. Makes necessary adjustments to functional parts of devices and control instruments, based on production requirements.
  5. Performs preventative maintenance on equipment based on schedule or immediate needs.
  6. Creates and enters work orders for necessary repairs. Allocates and documents hours worked on applicable work orders.
  7. Welds, performs sheet metal work and employs intermediate shop floor skills (lathe, drill press, grinder, and other metalworking tools).
  8. Installs, moves, and relocates machinery/equipment according to blueprints and other drawings.
  9. Performs other duties as assigned.

Basic Qualifications:

  1. Minimum of three to five years’ experience in an industrial maintenance role.
  2. Knowledge of troubleshooting bearings, belts, sheaves, sprockets, chains, and gear reducers and proper alignment of these drive devices.
  3. Experience in inspection of all included above and the ability to make recommendations on the proper level of replacement and inspection.
  4. Ability to make recommendations on spare parts, lock-out tag-out, guarding, and the level of operator involvement for proper machine integrity.

Desired Qualifications:

  1. Previous experience in the food industry and knowledge of GMP’s and SQF audits would be valuable.
  2. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  3. Ability to read and interpret blueprints and equipment manuals.
  4. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence, using a tablet.
  5. Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
  6. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
  7. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  8. Ability to follow instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  9. Computer Literate.

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts. The employee is frequently exposed to hot/cold environment, wet and/or humid conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; risk of electrical shock; and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move more than 50 pounds.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work: Five days’ workweek schedule, with one weekend day mandatory.
