Job summary

CJ Schwan’s is seeking a maintenance technician to conduct preventive maintenance, diagnose issues, and perform mechanical repairs on conveyor systems and production equipment in a food manufacturing setting. The role supports production needs with setup, teardown, welding, and installation of equipment.

Ideal candidates have 3+ years of related experience, a high school diploma or GED (a 2-year trade degree preferred), and ability to lift up to 50 lbs.

Qualifications

• Must have strong mechanical knowledge and ability to work with electrical and building skills.
• 2-year maintenance trade degree preferred; high school diploma or GED required.
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work various shifts including overtime or weekends.

Responsibilities

• Perform preventive maintenance and troubleshooting on conveyor systems and food production machinery.
• Carry out complex mechanical repairs including shaft keying, sprocket broaching, gear head replacement, welding, hydraulic hose fabrication, and belt maintenance.
• Assist with equipment setup, teardown, welding, fabrication, and installation of plant machinery.
• Diagnose mechanical issues through observation and measurements, identifying root causes.
• Document maintenance activities and communicate with production using SAP.

Starting Pay: $31.00 per hour
Additional $1.50 shift differential from 6 p.m. - 6 a.m.

What You Will Do:

• Conduct advanced preventive maintenance and troubleshooting on conveyor systems and food production machinery to ensure reliable operation and minimize downtime.
• Perform complex mechanical repairs including shaft keying, sprocket broaching, gear head replacement, stainless steel welding, hydraulic hose fabrication, and belt maintenance using specialized tools and equipment.
• Assist with equipment setup, teardown, welding, fabrication, and installation of new or modified plant machinery to support production needs.
• Diagnose mechanical issues through observation, auditory assessment, and use of precision measuring instruments, and effectively identifying and resolving root causes.
• Utilize SAP software to document maintenance activities, track work orders, and communicate effectively with production and operations teams to optimize workflow.

What You Will Bring:

• High school diploma or GED; two-year degree in specialized maintenance trade preferred.
• 3+ years of related experience.
• Work different ranges of hours such as full-time, overtime, or weekend shifts.
• Basic to advanced mechanical knowledge, electrical and building skills.
• Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
