Job summary

Residential Opportunities Inc. seeks a Facilities Maintenance Technician in Kalamazoo, MI to oversee hands-on maintenance, preventative care, and safety compliance for our residential facilities.

You will tackle basic electrical, plumbing, and appliance repairs; manage work orders; guide Maintenance I staff; and ensure compliance with safety codes and AFC regulations. We offer competitive pay and a collaborative, inclusive environment.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • 5+ years of hands-on maintenance or construction experience.
  • Strong knowledge of electrical and plumbing systems.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee maintenance, preventative care, and safety for assigned facilities.
  • Tackle repairs across electrical, plumbing, mechanical systems, appliances, cabinetry, and light construction.
  • Manage and prioritize work orders by urgency, safety, and needs.
  • Lead and support Maintenance I staff; assist with scheduling.
  • Ensure safety and compliance with codes and AFC regulations.

REPORTS TO: Senior Director of Facilities Management

STARTING WAGE: $21.63-$26.44 per hour, adjusted for relevant education and experience.

FLSA STATUS: Non-exempt

What You’ll Do

You will oversee the hands-on maintenance, preventative care, and safety compliance for our assigned residential facilities.

  • Maintain & Repair: Tackle general repairs, basic electrical, plumbing, mechanical systems, appliances, cabinetry, and light construction.
  • Prioritize & Organize: Manage, track, and complete incoming work orders based on urgency, safety, and facility needs.
  • Inspect & Prevent: Identify maintenance needs early to avoid major disruptions; keep accurate logs of inspections and repairs.
  • Lead & Collaborate: Guide and support Maintenance I staff, assist with scheduling, and recommend when to bring in specialized external contractors.
  • Ensure Safety & Compliance: Maintain properties in line with safety codes and licensing standards (such as Adult Foster Care regulations).
Required:
  • Education: High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Experience: 5+ years of hands-on maintenance or construction experience required.
  • Skills & Abilities:Strong general maintenance background, including working knowledge of basic electrical and plumbing systems.
Preferred:
  • Appliance repair, general construction background, and prior leadership or supervisory experience.
  • Familiarity with Adult Foster Care (AFC) licensing rules, MSHDA, or similar regulatory standards is a strong plus
