Job summary

The Department of Enterprise Services' Buildings & Grounds Division in Olympia seeks a Maintenance Technician (Maintenance Mechanic 1) to perform hands-on maintenance, repairs, and grounds work for state-owned facilities, including the Governor’s Mansion, in Thurston County.

Day-to-day duties include using hand and power tools, driving vehicles to transport materials, and conducting routine safety checks such as testing fire alarms and exit lighting. Training provided after hire.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED is required.
• Valid driver's license is required.
• Two years of general work experience in building and equipment maintenance, construction, or repair.
• Forklift and flagger certifications may be required; trainings provided after hire.

Responsibilities

• Perform hands-on maintenance, repairs, and grounds work for state-owned buildings.
• Use hand and power tools and operate equipment.
• Drive fleet vehicles to transport materials, tools, and supplies.
• Run routine safety checks, including testing fire alarms and exit lights.
• Maintain Governor’s Mansion and surrounding grounds under direction.
• Assist with remodeling and repair projects as needed.
• Communicate safety or skill concerns to supervisors when tasks exceed experience.
