County of Roanoke Virginia is seeking a skilled Maintenance Technician to perform diverse tasks across electrical, plumbing, carpentry, painting, and HVAC systems at the Regional Center for Animal Care and Protection. The role requires hands-on expertise and the ability to adapt to changing priorities in a facilities environment.
The ideal candidate has at least five years of maintenance experience, a valid Virginia driver’s license, and the ability to operate common tools.
Performs a variety of skilled maintenance tasks on building systems, components and equipment including skilled maintenance work in the areas of building, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, carpentry, and painting. Responsible for the daily general maintenance and operation of all building related systems and components. Provides direction and reviews work performed by contractors as required. Work is performed at the Regional Center for Animal Care and Protection. Performs other duties as assigned.
Required: High school diploma or equivalent supplemented by trade or technical school courses in Electricity and HVAC and/or OR demonstrated experience and qualifications necessary for the position.
Required: Five (5) or more years of experience in maintenance field OR demonstrated experience and qualifications necessary for the position.
Required: Valid Virginia driver’s license with good driving record.
Extensive knowledge of methods, materials, procedures, and equipment used in the maintenance and repair of buildings. Good knowledge of carpentry, plumbing, painting, mechanical, and electrical trades. Knowledge of personal computers and operation systems for Building automation. Ability to interface well with other technical staff, as well as interacting with vendors, contract personnel, and suppliers is essential. Ability to adapt to change where daily activities often change due to customer needs, building emergencies, or requests from management. Ability to safely handle and use common hand and power tools used in building and equipment maintenance work. Ability to work and complete assigned projects with a minimum of supervision. Ability to understand and follow instructions regarding safety practices including the use of equipment and material supplied by the County, to follow oral instructions and read and follow written instructions. Ability to work around animals.
Provide oversight to volunteers and Roanoke County Inmates.
Subject to a complete criminal history background search with acceptable results. Must maintain a neat professional appearance consistent with company policy. Must be inoculated for tetanus. Due to the nature of this role, candidates must have a current rabies vaccination or be willing to obtain one upon hire at no cost, as mandated by Roanoke County. Must be able to perform the job as described in the Physical and Environmental Demands section of this job description.
