Job summary

Wayne-Sanderson Farms is seeking a Maintenance Mechanic to perform preventive maintenance and repairs on large manufacturing equipment, including hydraulic, pneumatic, and conveyor systems. The role requires reading schematics, documenting work, and collaborating with managers to keep production lines running smoothly.

Shifts run Monday to Friday, 9:00pm-5:30am with on-the-job training and benefits from day one.

Qualifications

• Mechanically inclined with experience in manufacturing environments.
• Ability to read schematics and blueprints to diagnose problems.
• Good computer literacy and ability to log work records.
• Strong communication skills; multilingual ability preferred.

Responsibilities

• Perform preventive maintenance inspections and services on machines.
• Identify root causes of breakdowns and repair to minimize downtime.
• Record, report, and replace damaged parts; install replacements as needed.
• Prepare reports documenting work performed.
• Maintain shop areas, tools, and supplies; inventory management as needed.
• Coordinate with managers to schedule regular maintenance.
• Collaborate on product changes and necessary machinery modifications.
• Implement tests and modifications based on test results.
• Identify opportunities for improvement and lead or participate in solutions.
• Wear PPE and promote a zero-accident culture.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.

SHIFT DETAILS:

PRIMARY FUNCTION:

The Maintenance Mechanic performs preventative, maintenance, and repairs of large manufacturing equipment (hydraulic, pneumatic, conveyor, etc.).

RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS:

• Perform preventive maintenance inspections and service on machines, including cleaning, oiling, lubricating, changing belts machinery as necessary to ensure machines are in optimal working condition
• Identify root cause of unexpected breakdowns of machines; repair quickly and efficiently to decrease downtime for machine
• Record and report damaged, worn, or broken parts, ordering and installing replacement parts for machines as needed
• Prepare reports documenting work performed.
• Clean, organize, inventory, stock, and otherwise maintains shop areas, parts, tools, and supplies as needed
• Coordinate with managers to schedule regular maintenance on machines.
• Collaborate with department heads regarding new products being added and modifications that will be required
• Make necessary modifications and implements tests runs; confers with product manager regarding test results and makes additional alterations to machinery as required
• Identify opportunities for improvement, present to appropriate leader, and implement, lead or participate in solution implementation
• Wear personal protective equipment (PPE) in all areas where mandatory helping to promote a zero-accident culture
• Perform additional relevant duties as assigned

SUPERVISOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

• None. This is an individual contributor role with required competencies: Functional/Technical Skills, Action Oriented, Problem Solving, Learning on the Fly, and Interpersonal Savvy

EDUCATION and CERTIFICATIONS:

• High School diploma or equivalent
• Vocational certificate in appropriate field (i.e. welding, maintenance, electrical, etc.) preferred
• Ability to take and pass internal required testing

EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS:

• Mechanically inclined with relevant experience in a manufacturing environment
• Ability to read and understand schematics, blueprints, etc. to diagnose problems with manufacturing equipment
• Good computer literacy with ability to enter work records in appropriate program
• Must have good communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to communicate with all levels of the organization in a timely and professional manner; multi-lingual strongly preferred
• Ability to handle and resolve most issues in an efficient and effective mannerSAFETY REQUIREMENTS:
  • Follow departmental and company safety policies and programs
  • Wear required protective equipment in all areas where mandatory

  PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to work extended shifts (holiday, weekend and/or extended) as business need requires
  • Ability to work in cold/ humid or hot/ dusty environments as needed
  • Prolonged periods of standing, walking, crawling, stooping, kneeling, etc. with ability to bend, stretch, push, pull, and move as needed to reach, clean, and service machinery
  • Must be able to visually inspect machines
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds
