Job description

Position Summary

This position is responsible for ensuring operation of machinery and mechanical equipment; locating the source of problems and observing mechanical devices; removing defective parts and dismantling equipment; determining changes in dimensional requirements; adjusting functional parts of devices and control instruments, performing routine preventive maintenance techniques; monitoring compliance; fabricating repair parts; maintaining equipment, parts, and supply inventory; and providing mechanical maintenance information and reports. This position will report to the shift supervisor.

Duties/Responsibilities
  • Completes preventive maintenance requirements on engines, motors, pneumatic tools, conveyor systems, and production machines.
  • Follows diagrams, sketches, operations manuals, manufacturer’s instructions, and engineering specifications.
  • Troubleshoots malfunctions and listens for problems.
  • Uses precision measuring and testing instruments.
  • Uses hoists, cranes, and hand and power tools.
  • Uses rulers, calipers, micrometers, and other measuring instruments.
  • Adjusts functional parts of devices and control instruments by using hand tools, levels, plumb bobs, and straightedges.
  • Controls downtime by informing production workers of routine preventive maintenance techniques and monitoring compliance.
  • Fabricates repair parts by using machine shop instrumentation and equipment.
  • Maintains equipment, parts, and supply inventory.
  • Conserves maintenance resources by using equipment and supplies as needed to accomplish job results.
  • Provides mechanical maintenance information by answering questions and requests.
  • Prepares mechanical maintenance reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends.
  • Maintains continuity among work teams by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs.
  • Maintains a safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.
  • Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
  • Additional responsibilities include machine and auxiliary equipment preventative measures.

Education and Experience
  • Associate degree or completion of a qualified apprenticeship program.
  • Minimum of 2 years of related work experience.
  • Self‑motivated.
  • Knowledge of inventory systems.
  • Capable of utilizing basic math skills.
  • Capable of using scan guns and ERP software.
  • Detail‑oriented.
  • Hilo certified or able to become certified in operating lift equipment.
  • Must be able to clear a drug screen and background check.
  • Must have reliable transportation.
Physical Requirements
  • Prolonged periods of standing entire shift.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at times.
  • Must be able to bend and twist throughout the entire shift; hearing and/or eye protection required.
Physical Demands of Work Environment

The ideal candidate must be able to complete all physical requirements of the job with or without a reasonable accommodation as you will frequently walk, use hands and fingers to handle or feel, operate, activate, inspect, place, detect, position, grasp or squeeze, stoop, kneel, crunch or crow, climb, talk/hear to communicate, detect, converse with discern, convey, exchange information; see to detect, distinguish, identify, inspect, estimate. Perform frequent repetitive movement, lifting, pushing, and pulling; up to 70 lbs., drive vehicles and operate equipment. This position requires assistance from coworkers when handling heavier items since load pallets and skids may be up to 35‑feet long and weigh up to 200 lbs. Must wear required protective clothing.

Work Environment

Be able to work in a loud, noisy, and congested environment. May be exposed to extreme temperatures hot and cold and dusty areas; work is performed inside and outside in all weather conditions; proper protective clothing is required to protect against extreme temperature conditions.
