The Maintenance Technician position is an mid-level position into the Facility Systems department and encompasses a wide array of skilled disciplines. The incumbent operates, troubleshoots, repairs and does preventive maintenance on all boilers, chillers, air conditioners, air compressors and related equipment. The Technician maintains all plumbing, operates and maintains all fire systems, electrical substations and electrical power distribution systems. The Technician maintains all mobile equipment, the distribution center buildings and grounds, as well as the Cafe equipment. Incumbent works overtime when needed. May be required to work at the Carefree Caves in Independence, Missouri.


Teamwork, cooperation and flexibility, along with LEAN principles of problem solving and elimination of waste are expectations of the position. Additionally, every employee is responsible for their personal safety, as well as the safety of their peers. Adherence of established safety policies and procedures, along with the reporting of all injuries and unsafe conditions are also requirements of this position. Business needs of the department may require additions or changes to the duties of this position.


Basic Qualifications:



  • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent

  • Ability to constantly stand, walk, push/pull and reach above shoulder level.

  • Ability to push, pull, lift and carry up to 20 lbs constantly, 50 lbs frequently and lift up to 100 lbs occasionally.

  • PC experience with word and excel

  • An Associates degree OR a certificate of completion in electrical systems maintenance, electronics, or electo-mechanical

  • 2 years of experience working as a Building Maintenance Technician (Technical) with demonstrated proficiency or a Certificate of Completion in Electrical Systems Maintenance, Electronics, Robotics, or Electro-mechanical.

  • Familiar with lockout/tagout procedures.
