POSITION TITLE: Maintenance Mechanic

DEPARTMENT: Maintenance

POSITION SUMMARY: This position is responsible for keeping all machines in good working condition and ensuring the smooth and safe operation of the plant. The role is classified into three levels: Maintenance 1, 2, & 3.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. Address job assignments by priority: Discuss with management which jobs should be performed first.
2. Check equipment: Inspect chillers, water towers, and air compressors to ensure proper operation.
3. Machine operation: Ensure all machines on the floor are running; coordinate assistance if needed.
4. Floor support: Assist with running blow molders, downstream conveyors, case sealers, boxes, and inserts.
5. Maintain cleanliness: Keep the shop area clean and organized.
6. Repairs and maintenance: Repair and rebuild parts, handle service issues, and maintain plant equipment.
7. Mechanical work: Perform mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic work as capable. (Maintenance 2 & 3): Perform changeovers.
8. Fabrication and electrical work: (Maintenance 3): Fabricate, weld, or perform electrical tasks.

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:

Assist others as needed, check fire suppression systems, fans (intake and exhaust), aid in housekeeping, and perform other duties as assigned.

Additional duties: May perform the duties of a Machine Operator. During startup and troubleshooting, may perform tasks associated with other plant positions.

DECISION MAKING:

Determine the best course of action (repair or replace) to restore equipment and ensure safety.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Must be physically capable of lifting up to 75 lbs., and able to stand, walk, bend, reach overhead, and climb as needed.

RESPONSIBILITIES FOR RESULTS:

Minimize breakdowns and repairs through preventive maintenance and thorough knowledge of plant equipment.

KNOWLEDGE / SKILLS:

High school diploma or equivalent, with at least 5 years of manufacturing experience. Strong mechanical aptitude, broad knowledge of machine operations, troubleshooting skills, and ability to read schematics and service manuals.
