Job summary

South Georgia Technical College in Americus is seeking a Maintenance Technician to install, maintain and repair electrical, HVAC and plumbing systems across campus.

The role requires a high school diploma or GED and at least one year in a skilled trade or building maintenance, with strong safety knowledge, blueprint reading skills, and the ability to lift heavy items. You will participate in renovations, grounds care, emergency repairs, and maintain records, reporting to the Facilities Director.

Job Description

Campus: Americus

General Duties
  • Installs maintains or repairs electrical systems and associated hardware;
  • Installs, maintains or repairs all HVAC equipment;
  • Installs, maintains repairs, and renovates plumbing hardware;
  • Assists with renovation projects as assigned;
  • Assists with carpentry projects;
  • Participates in the repair and maintenance of college equipment and vehicles;
  • Participates in grounds maintenance activities, including installing and maintaining landscaping;
  • Uses and maintains a variety of tools, materials and equipment;
  • Maintains required records and logs;
  • Maintains fire alarms, sprinkler and security systems;
  • Responds to emergency requests for repairs;
  • Performs all other duties as assigned in the fulfillment of the needs, philosophy, and purpose of South Georgia Technical College.
Education Requirements

Education Requirements: A High School diploma or GED *and* one year of experience in a skilled trade (electrical, carpentry, plumbing) or building maintenance.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Knowledge of the tools, equipment, materials, and practices of building and grounds maintenance;
  • Knowledge of safety policies and procedures;
  • Knowledge of plumbing, electrical, and HVAC system maintenance and repair;
  • Skill in the operation of computers and job-related software programs;
  • Skill in interpersonal relations and in dealing with the public;
  • Oral and written communication skills;
  • Ability to lift, push, and carry heavy items;
  • Ability to read, interpret, and apply construction plans, specifications, and blueprints.

Minimum Qualifications: A high school degree or GED *and* One (1) year of experience in a skilled trade (electrical, carpentry, plumbing) or building maintenance.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Five years within the last seven (7) in commercial HVAC & Refrigeration OR commercial appliance repair
Compensation
  • Full-time position. Salary commensurate with education and experience.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to push, pull, stoop, kneel, crouch frequently;
  • Walking and standing 4-8 hours;
  • Must be able to grip, hold, and turn objects in his/her hands and ability to exert 50-100 lbs. of force occasionally and/or 25-49 lbs. of force frequently.
  • Near Vision - The ability to see details at close range (within a few feet of the observer).
