Job summary

Savannah Technical College is seeking a Maintenance Technician to maintain and repair facilities and grounds across campus. This role supports electrical, plumbing and carpentry tasks, and assists with renovations and equipment maintenance.

The position requires a high school diploma or equivalent and 1 year of skilled-trade experience, with preference for 3+ years and campus experience. Valid driver’s license and safety compliance are expected.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent and 1 year of experience in a skilled trade or building maintenance.
  • Preferred: 3+ years in a skilled trade or building maintenance; college campus experience; HVAC, plumbing and electrical competencies.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and repair college facilities and grounds.
  • Install, maintain or repair electrical systems and hardware.
  • Install, maintain, repair and renovate plumbing hardware.
  • Assist with renovation and carpentry projects; maintain equipment and vehicles.
  • Participate in grounds maintenance and landscaping; apply herbicides and pesticides.
  • Coordinate work of maintenance and custodial staff as directed by supervisor.

Job Description

The Maintenance Technician is responsible for performing skilled and semi-skilled work associated with the maintenance and repair of the college's facilities and grounds.

  • Installs, maintains or repairs electrical systems and associated hardware;
  • Installs, maintains repairs and renovates plumbing hardware;
  • Assists with renovation projects as assigned;
  • Assists with carpentry projects;
  • Participates in the repair and maintenance of college equipment and vehicles;
  • Participates in grounds maintenance activities, including installing and maintaining landscaping, applying herbicides and pesticides, and maintaining parking lots;
  • Uses and maintains a variety of tools, materials and equipment;
  • Maintains required records and logs;
  • Maintains fire alarms, sprinkler and security systems;
  • Coordinates the work of maintenance and custodial staff as directed by supervisor.
  • Responds to emergency requests for repairs.
Minimum Qualifications
  • A high school diploma or equivalent *and* One (1) year of experience in a skilled trade or building maintenance.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Three (3) or more years of experience in a skilled trade or building maintenance
  • Experience on a College campus
  • HVAC, Plumbing, and Electrical competencies, licenses and the like
  • Experience working for a state agency
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and plans
  • Ability to use a computer and knowledge of basic computer program functions
  • Valid driver's license
Physical Demands

Physical Demands: Ability to lift/move objects weighing 15lbs or more; ability to use a range of hand and power tools; ability to work in various environmental conditions; ability to climb ladders; ability to work independently. This position is a field position and will require constant movement and repetitive motions.
