Job summary

Compass Minerals in Utah is seeking a hands-on Maintenance Technician to support plant operations. You will repair, assemble, and disassemble machinery, perform welding with cutting torch, and maintain pumps, valves and pipe fittings while following safety rules.

The role requires reading manuals, completing work orders, and performing routine inspections; experience with JD Edwards or SAP is preferred. Rotation includes days, nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.

Qualifications

• Must have a high school diploma or equivalent; technical training may be required at various levels.
• Experience maintaining industrial equipment in large processing or mining operations preferred.
• Prior work experience maintaining industrial equipment, conveyors, pumps, piping, boilers, heat exchangers, hydraulic systems, evaporators, crystallizers, thickeners, and similar equipment preferred.
• Experience with JD Edwards, SAP, IFS, or similar systems is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Perform repairs, assemblies and disassemblies of machinery per manufacturer specs.
• Welds mild steel and performs flat and vertical welds using cutting torch for metal cutting/heating.
• Maintain valves and bearings including packing, lubrication, and replacement/repair.
• Perform basic pipe fitting for threaded and welded joints.
• Rig equipment, create and manage work orders for maintenance in the plant.
• Conduct routine inspections and assist with layout and use of power tools.
• Work rotating shifts including days, nights, weekends, and holidays as required.

Essential Job Functions: Include but are not limited to the following:

• Follows established safety and housekeeping rules and reports, and/or, corrects unsafe conditions
• Reads and correctly interprets information contained in equipment and vendor manuals.
• Repairs, assembles and/or disassembles small gear boxes, pumps, transmissions and other machinery in accordance with manufacturers' specifications and recommendations.
• Welds mild steel. Performs flat and vertical welds.
• Uses cutting torch to accomplish freehand cutting of metals and/or heating of parts.
• Provides valve/bearing maintenance inclusive of packing, lubricating and replacement/repair.
• Performs basic pipe fitting as applied to threaded and welded joints.
• Performs basic layout, equipment rigging, some minor machinist duties & most commonly used power tools.
• Perform routine inspections
• Create work orders for maintenance work required in the plant
• Performs other functions as directed by the supervisor
• Ability to work rotating shifts, including days, nights, weekends, and/or holidays as required.

Education And/or Experience

• Must have a high school diploma or equivalent, additional technical training may be required at various levels
• Previous experience or education demonstrating the ability to maintain equipment for proper operation, experience in large processing or mining operations preferred
• Prior work experience maintaining industrial equipment, conveyors & packaging systems, pumps, piping, boilers, heat exchangers, hydraulic systems, evaporators, crystallizers, thickeners, and other similar equipment preferred
• Experience with JD Edwards, SAP, IFS, or similar is preferred
