Job summary

Cambridge Valley Machining, Inc. in New York, NY, is seeking a Maintenance Technician to keep production equipment available and reliable.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED.
• Minimum five (5) years of industrial maintenance experience in a manufacturing environment.

• Basic computer proficiency for documentation and maintenance recordkeeping.
• Preferred: Technical degree, trade school certification, apprenticeship, or equivalent technical training.

• Preferred: Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, 5S, and TPM (Total Productive Maintenance).
• Preferred: Experience with CMMS.
• Preferred: Welding, fabrication, industrial electrical, or PLC troubleshooting experience.

Responsibilities

• Repair or replace defective equipment parts using hand tools and power tools, and reassemble equipment.
• Perform routine preventive maintenance to ensure machines run smoothly and building systems operate efficiently.
• Inspect drives, motors, belts, check fluid levels, replace filters, and follow checklists.
• Use tools from hand tools to electrical testing devices; assemble, install, and repair wiring, components, and piping.
• Diagnose mechanical problems using blueprints and repair manuals; determine corrective actions.
• Record maintenance and repair work performed and the costs of the work.
• Paint and repair roofs, windows, doors, floors, woodwork, plaster, drywall, and other building components.
• Support TPM and 5S programs and contribute to team efforts.

CVM is currently accepting applications for the role of Maintenance Technician. The Maintenance Technician maintains production and quality by maximizing up time of machinery and mechanical equipment and facilities.

Key Responsibilities

• Repair or replace defective equipment parts using hand tools and power tools, and reassemble equipment.
• Perform routine preventive maintenance to ensure that machines continue to run smoothly, building systems operate efficiently, and the physical condition of buildings does not deteriorate.
• Inspect drives, motors, and belts, check fluid levels, replace filters, and perform other maintenance actions, following checklists.
• Use tools ranging from common hand and power tools, such as hammers, hoists, saws, drills, and wrenches, to precision measuring instruments and electrical and electronic testing devices.
• Assemble, install, and/or repair wiring, electrical and electronic components, pipe systems and plumbing, machinery, and equipment.
• Diagnose mechanical problems and determine how to correct them, checking blueprints, repair manuals, and parts catalogs as necessary.
• Inspect, operate, and test machinery and equipment to diagnose machine malfunctions.
• Record maintenance and repair work performed and the costs of the work.
• Clean and lubricate shafts, bearings, gears, and other parts of machinery.
• Dismantle devices to gain access to and remove defective parts, using hoists, cranes, hand tools, and power tools.
• Determine parts, supplies, and equipment to be ordered from catalogs and suppliers, or obtain them from inventory.
• Adjust functional parts of devices and control instruments, using hand tools, levels, plumb bobs, and straightedges.
• Paint and repair roofs, windows, doors, floors, woodwork, plaster, drywall, and other parts of building structures.
• Support TPM and 5S programs.
• Contribute to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Physical Requirements

• Frequently stand and walk throughout the manufacturing facility during the workday.
• Frequently bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, climb ladders, and work in confined or elevated spaces.
• Frequently use hands and fingers to operate hand tools, power tools, testing equipment, and computers.
• Frequently lift, carry, push, and pull materials, tools, and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds independently and heavier items with assistance or mechanical lifting devices.
• Ability to safely operate ladders, hoists, cranes, forklifts (if certified), and other maintenance equipment.
• Ability to distinguish colors when working with electrical wiring, indicators, and control systems where required.
• Visual ability sufficient to inspect equipment, identify defects, and read gauges, meters, and technical documentation.
• Ability to communicate effectively in both office and manufacturing environments.

Work Environment

• Work is performed primarily in a manufacturing production environment with occasional work in office or maintenance shop settings.
• Regular exposure to moving mechanical equipment, electrical systems, hydraulic and pneumatic systems, compressed air, lubricants, coolants, cleaning chemicals, metal chips, and varying temperatures.
• Frequent exposure to moderate to high noise levels.
• Required use of personal protective equipment (PPE), including safety glasses, hearing protection, steel-toe footwear, gloves, and other PPE as required.
• Overtime, weekend work, and schedule flexibility may be required to support production demands, preventive maintenance activities, and equipment repairs.
