Job summary

Cambridge Valley Machining, Inc. is seeking a Maintenance Lead to oversee and execute advanced maintenance for CNC machines and facility systems in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum seven (7) years of industrial maintenance experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Demonstrated experience troubleshooting and repairing CNC machine tools.
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and lubrication systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, mechanical drawings, technical manuals, and equipment documentation.
  • Demonstrated troubleshooting and diagnostic skills.
  • Ability to prioritize work and respond effectively to changing production demands.
  • Proficiency using computers and standard Microsoft Office applications.

Description
Position Summary

The Maintenance Lead is a working technical leader responsible for maintaining and improving equipment reliability, machine uptime, and facility operations in a CNC manufacturing environment. This position performs advanced troubleshooting, repair, preventive maintenance, and continuous improvement activities on CNC machine tools and facility systems while providing technical guidance and support to maintenance personnel. The Maintenance Lead serves as the primary maintenance subject matter expert and partners with Production, Engineering, Quality, and other departments to minimize downtime, improve equipment reliability, and support safe, efficient manufacturing operations.

Key Responsibilities
Equipment Maintenance & Repair:
  • Diagnose, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain CNC machine tools and related equipment, including mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, lubrication, and coolant systems.
  • Troubleshoot CNC controls, machine electronics, drives, motors, sensors, and associated systems.
  • Respond to equipment failures and restore production equipment to safe operating condition in a timely manner.
  • Perform inspections, repairs, adjustments, and component replacements as required.
  • Document maintenance activities, repairs, and equipment history.
Preventive & Predictive Maintenance:
  • Perform and support preventive and predictive maintenance activities to maximize equipment reliability and minimize downtime.
  • Develop, improve, and maintain preventive maintenance procedures and schedules.
  • Identify equipment reliability concerns and recommend corrective actions.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records and documentation within the company's maintenance management system.
Facility Maintenance:
  • Maintain and repair facility systems, including HVAC, compressed air systems, electrical distribution, plumbing, lighting, and general building infrastructure.
  • Coordinate maintenance activities with outside contractors and service providers as required.
  • Assist with facility improvement projects and equipment installations.
Technical Leadership:
  • Serve as the primary technical resource for equipment troubleshooting and repair.
  • Provide technical guidance, mentoring, and training to maintenance technicians and production personnel.
  • Recommend spare parts inventory levels and equipment reliability improvements.
  • Support capital equipment installations, machine relocations, and commissioning activities.
Continuous Improvement:
  • Participate in root cause analysis and corrective action activities related to equipment failures.
  • Recommend and implement improvements to increase equipment reliability, reduce downtime, and improve maintainability.
  • Support Lean Manufacturing and continuous improvement initiatives.
Safety & Compliance
  • Perform all work in accordance with company safety policies, OSHA regulations, lockout/tagout procedures, and applicable codes and standards.
  • Maintain compliance with environmental, quality, and regulatory requirements.
  • Identify and report unsafe conditions and participate in corrective actions to improve workplace safety.

Required Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications
  • Technical degree, trade school certification, apprenticeship, or equivalent technical training.
  • Experience with Makino, Okuma, Mori Seiki, Mazak, Enshu, Hermle, or similar CNC machining centers.
  • PLC troubleshooting experience.
  • Experience with CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management Systems).
  • Experience supporting aerospace, defense, medical device, or precision machining manufacturing.
  • Welding, fabrication, or industrial electrical experience.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Advanced troubleshooting and diagnostic skills.
  • Strong understanding of industrial maintenance principles and equipment reliability.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and manuals.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.

Physical Requirements
  • Frequently stand and walk throughout a manufacturing facility during the workday.
  • Frequently bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, climb ladders, and work in confined or elevated spaces as required.
  • Frequently use hands and fingers to operate tools, test equipment, controls, and computers.
  • Frequently lift, carry, push, and pull materials, tools, and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds independently and heavier items with assistance or mechanical lifting devices.
  • Ability to safely use hand tools, power tools, ladders, hoists, forklifts (if certified), and other maintenance equipment.
  • Ability to distinguish colors for electrical wiring and indicator lights where job duties require.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in both office and production environments.
Work Environment
  • Work is performed primarily in a manufacturing production environment with occasional office work.
  • Regular exposure to industrial machinery, moving mechanical equipment, electrical systems, compressed air systems, hydraulic systems, lubricants, coolants, metal chips, and varying temperatures.
  • Frequent exposure to moderate to high noise levels.
  • Required use of personal protective equipment (PPE), including safety glasses, hearing protection, steel-toe footwear, and other PPE as required.
  • Position may require overtime, weekend work, or off-shift support to respond to equipment failures or support production requirements.
