Job summary

Morris Packaging is seeking an industrial maintenance technician to troubleshoot and repair manufacturing equipment in our Kentucky facility. You will observe machinery in operation, identify issues, and implement preventative maintenance to minimize downtime.

The role requires strong mechanical aptitude, familiarity with electrical troubleshooting, and the ability to read blueprints and assembly instructions.

  • Understanding of manufacturing process and control systems is a plus.
  • Packaging industry experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot and repair manufacturing equipment.
  • Observe mechanical devices during operation and listen for problems.
  • Reduce downtime through preventative maintenance techniques.
  • Install new equipment per manufacturer specs and management requirements.
  • Design, implement and manage preventative maintenance programs.
  • Inspect, adjust, repair, and troubleshoot equipment and tools.
  • Perform daily safety and functionality inspections of all machinery.
  • Maintain inventories of equipment, parts, and supplies.

Position Summary:

To be responsible for troubleshooting and repairing manufacturing equipment by

observing mechanical devices in operation as well as listening for any problems.

Essential Functions:
  • 3 to 6 years of industrial maintenance or similar environment performing comparable tasks as required for this position.
  • PLC experience preferred, but not mandatory.
  • Controls downtime by informing production workers of routine preventative maintenance techniques.
  • Monitoring for compliance.
  • Build assemblies of company assets and install as needed.
  • Install new equipment according to manufacturer specifications and management requirements.
  • Design, implement and manage preventative maintenance programs for all mechanical equipment and tools.
  • Install, maintain, repair, adjust, troubleshoot, and inspect equipment and tools.
  • Perform daily safety and functionality inspections of all machinery.
  • Review the need for and request tools, equipment and supplies necessary to perform duties.
  • Maintains equipment, parts, and supplies inventories by checking stock to determine inventory level; anticipating needed equipment, parts and supplies; placing and expediting orders; verifying receipt.

Work Environment:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be primarily in our climate-controlled facility. The plant floor is subject to vibration and equipment noise leading to a loud environment. The employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts and might also be exposed to outside conditions, tight spaces, cleaning solvents and heights. There is a moderate to high demand for tight deadlines. This position will experience moderate interruption in workflow, starting and stopping for product changeovers.

employee is regularly required to talk and listen. While performing the duties of this job:

  • Continuous (6 or more hours per day) talking, listening, teaching, and repetitive motion, hand/wrist movement.
  • Continuous (6 or more hours per day) standing and walking.
  • Continuous (6 or more hours per day) bending, pushing, pulling, climbing stairs, reaching, lifting, and grasping.
  • Frequent (1 to 3 hours per day) work in a stooped position.
  • Good eyesight, normal hearing.
  • Ability to move and lift objects, frequently 50 lbs.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:

This is a full-time position. Days, nights and hours may vary depending on assigned shift and productions requirements. This position may require significant work hours beyond the normal workday based on the demands of the business cycle or customer volume of business.

Travel:

Should not be required.

Required Education and Experience:
  • Ability to read and write English.
  • Ability to understand and follow safety procedures.
  • High school degree or equivalent.
  • Excellent mechanical aptitude.
  • Familiarity with electrical aspects and troubleshooting electronics.
  • Ability to read blueprints and assembly instructions provided by manufacturers and our engineering department.
  • Independent/self-starter and willing to perform other related duties as required.
  • Able to work overtime as required.
  • Execute with verbal work instructions.
  • Enjoy a challenging work environment.
  • Understanding of manufacturing process and control systems a plus.
  • Packaging Industry experience a plus.
Licenses and Certifications:

Forklift certification.

Supervisory Responsibility:
