Job description

Maintenance Technician — RISE Vols | Knoxville, TN
Compensation: $22–$24 per hour

A resident’s AC stops working. A leaky faucet needs attention. An apartment needs a few final repairs before move-in. You know how to work through the problem, make the repair, and leave things better than you found them.

At RISE Vols, we’re looking for a Maintenance Technician who takes pride in doing the job right and understands that every service request matters to the person who lives there. In a student housing community, the days can move quickly, especially during move-in and turnover. You’ll be part of the team that keeps the community running and helps residents feel comfortable in their homes.

If you enjoy hands-on work, solving problems, and seeing the results of your effort each day, this could be a good fit.

What You’ll Be Doing
  • Respond to resident service requests with professionalism, care, and attention to detail.
  • Troubleshoot and repair plumbing, electrical, appliance, HVAC, and general carpentry issues within your training and qualifications.
  • Prepare apartments for new residents by completing repairs, checking equipment, and identifying anything that needs additional attention.
  • Perform preventive maintenance to keep building systems and equipment working properly.
  • Help maintain common areas, amenities, and grounds so the community stays clean, safe, and welcoming.
  • Report safety concerns, property damage, and maintenance issues that need further attention.
  • Keep accurate records of completed work and communicate when repairs require parts or follow-up.
  • Maintain tools, supplies, and work areas in an organized and safe condition.
  • Support the team during student move-in, move-out, and busy turnover periods.
  • Participate in the on-call rotation and respond to after-hours maintenance emergencies.
What We’re Looking For
  • Previous experience in apartment maintenance, building maintenance, or a related trade.
  • Working knowledge of plumbing, electrical repairs, appliances, HVAC, and general maintenance.
  • EPA certification preferred.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills and the judgment to ask for help when needed.
  • Dependability, follow-through, and the ability to stay organized when priorities change.
  • A respectful, service-minded approach when working in residents’ homes.
  • Willingness to pitch in and support the maintenance and office teams.
  • Availability for on-call responsibilities and additional scheduling needs during peak turnover periods.
  • Ability to perform the essential physical duties of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation.
This Role May Be a Good Fit If

You like working with your hands and figuring out why something isn’t working. You notice the details, clean up after a repair, and follow through when a job takes more than one visit. You’re comfortable working independently and know when to bring in your team.

You also understand that residents may be living away from home for the first time. A clear explanation and a little patience can make a difference in their experience.

Why RISE?

At RISE Vols, you’ll help care for a community that’s part of the college experience. Your work will support everything from a resident’s first move-in day to the everyday comfort of having a home that works as it should.

We’re looking for someone who cares about their work, supports their teammates, and is ready to contribute. If that sounds like you, we’d like to hear from you.
