Job summary

Siegwerk USA Inc. in Des Moines, IA is seeking a maintenance technician to install, repair and maintain manufacturing equipment and building systems.

The role involves troubleshooting electrical and mechanical issues, performing preventative maintenance, and coordinating with supervisors to keep production running. You will work Thursday-Saturday nights 6:00 pm-6:00 am with every other Sunday off; requires basic computer skills and ability to read manuals.

Qualifications

• One-year certificate from college or technical school preferred, plus 3–6 months related experience or equivalent.
• Basic computer skills and ability to read and interpret manuals.

Responsibilities

• Install and maintain machinery, provide electrical supply to equipment.
• Repair or replace components, respond to maintenance requests and complete related tasks.
• Perform preventative maintenance and checks per program.
• Inspect and troubleshoot mechanical and electrical systems; diagnose issues with supervisors.
• Operate machine tools and assist with pipe fitting, fabrication, and repairs.
• On-call as needed and assist with facility maintenance.

Location: Siegwerk USA Inc. | 3535 SW 56th Street | Des Moines, IA 50321

Shift: Thursday-Saturday, 6:00 pm-6:00 am, every other Sunday

Job Responsibilities

• Installs new or relocated machinery, providing electrical supply to the equipment.
• Completes work orders: replaces lamps or ballast, repairs or replaces hoses & pumps, responds to temperature‑related complaints or concerns, completes computer‑related tasks such as installing cabling and PCs, and performs a myriad of tasks related to maintenance/repair of all manufacturing equipment and building systems.
• Determines proper course of action related to repair vs. replacement vs. modification of equipment, tools, etc., and makes recommendations regarding such to supervisor.
• Conducts preventative maintenance on a bi‑weekly and annual basis or per Preventive Maintenance program: lubrication of shot mills, changing filters.
• HVAC‑related duties such as checking belts, lubricating bearings, and changing filters.
• Visually inspects and tests machinery and equipment.
• Checks and listens for unusual sounds from machines or equipment to detect malfunction and discusses machine operation variations with supervisors or other maintenance workers to diagnose problem or repair machine.
• Dismantles defective machines and equipment and installs new or repaired parts.
• Cleans, lubricates shafts, bearings, gears, and other parts of machinery.
• Lays out, assembles, installs, and maintains pipe systems and related hydraulic and pneumatic equipment, and repairs gauges, valves, pressure regulators, and related equipment.
• Repairs and maintains the physical structure of the facility (internal and external).
• Sets up and operates machine tools to repair, fabricate machine parts, tools, etc.
• May operate cutting torch or welding equipment to cut or join metal parts.
• Pipe fitting, pump rebuild, and fabrication.
• On‑call when necessary.
• Other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience

• One‑year certificate from college or technical school preferred, plus three to six months related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

• Pipefitting, heating, and general mechanical skills preferably in a manufacturing environment.
• Electrical process equipment troubleshooting and mechanical skills preferred.
• Ability to climb ladder is needed.
• Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals; ability to write routine reports and correspondence; ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization.
• Ability to add and subtract two‑digit numbers and to multiply and divide with tens.
• Ability to perform these operations using units of American money, weight measurement, volume, and distance.
• Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uncomplicated written or oral instructions; ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
• Basic computer skills desired – Microsoft Word/Excel and E‑mail.
