Siegwerk USA Inc. in Des Moines, IA is seeking a production technician to set up, operate, and monitor ink processing equipment, weigh and batch ingredients, and prepare products for QC and shipping.

The role covers filtration, labeling, shipping duties, and routine maintenance. You will follow safety procedures, handle hazardous waste per regulations, participate in quality checks, and support continuous improvement on the 6:00 pm–6:00 am shift, Monday–Wednesday with every other Sunday.

Qualifications

  • Ability to operate forklift and other powered industrial equipment as required.
  • Ability to use computers comfortably in an automated facility.
  • Ability to multi-task and abide by a set schedule.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents in English, including safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to carry out detailed written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Ability to lift up to 55 lbs on a repetitive basis.

Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate equipment (pre-batch, milling, and dispensing) per procedures.
  • Monitor equipment for proper operation, function, and safety.
  • Take samples of ink to the QC Lab. Adjust batches of ink as needed for quality control.
  • Properly filter and/or strain large/small batches of ink.
  • Accurately weigh all containers and set the scale accordingly. Ensure proper containers are used and prepared for shipping.
  • Pump large/small batches of ink into proper containers. Take measures to ensure accuracy.
  • Choose appropriate labels and ensure correct labeling.
  • Perform shipping and receiving duties as needed.
  • Assist with maintenance when needed.
  • Thoroughly clean all containers, still, and work area including floors, walls, and equipment.
  • Complete product sheets, checking for accuracy.
  • Communicate status of work to other shifts, as needed.
  • Prioritize workflow on the assigned machine or equipment.
  • Serve as backup for other production technicians or production staff as needed.
  • Perform minor maintenance functions on equipment following the preventative maintenance schedule.
  • Participate in department meetings regarding safety, process improvement, and plant operations.
  • Participate in the completion of the annual Physical Inventory.
  • Stop ink shipments if quality is in question and report to manager.
  • Follow all safety procedures, environmental requirements, permit conditions, and safe work practices.
  • Use required personal protective equipment (PPE) and maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
  • Handle, label, store, and dispose of hazardous waste in accordance with company procedures and regulatory requirements.
  • Comply with environmental programs related to hazardous waste, spill prevention, stormwater protection, chemical storage, air emissions, and pollution prevention. Immediately report safety incidents, near misses, spills, equipment malfunctions, and environmental concerns.
  • Participate in inspections, audits, investigations, and corrective actions to support continuous improvement and regulatory compliance.
  • Follow operating procedures designed to maintain environmental compliance and promptly report abnormal operating conditions or potential environmental impacts.

Job description

Location: Siegwerk USA Inc., 3535 SW 56th Street, Des Moines, IA 50321.

Shift available: 6:00 pm–6:00 am, Monday–Wednesday, every other Sunday.

Starting rate is $20/hour plus applicable shift differentials.
