Job summary

Marriott Norfolk Waterside in Norfolk, VA is seeking a Maintenance Assistant. The role requires a High School Diploma or GED, basic computer skills, and 2+ years in a maintenance/industrial trade.

You will support electrical, plumbing, carpentry and HVAC tasks, ensure safety and cleanliness, and assist with daily hotel operations. Responsibilities include reviewing daily work orders, coordinating with supervisors, and following OSHA guidelines.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Review daily assignments and priorities with supervisors.
• Inspect and document problems from night report; note safety concerns.
• Schedule work per preventive maintenance program with hotel leadership.
• Assist electricians, carpenters, plumbers and painters as needed.
• Utilize tools properly; handle chemicals per OSHA regulations.
• Ensure security of assigned keys; understand local codes and blueprints.
• Respond to emergencies to protect guests and property.
• Adhere to all department and brand policies; follow general duties.

Job Details: Job Location: Marriott Norfolk Waterside, Norfolk, VA - Norfolk, VA, Salary Range: $17.00 - $17.00Hourly

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Be in proper uniform, with a nametag.
• Always maintain positive guest relations. Work to resolve guest complaints, ensuring guest satisfaction.
• Maintain knowledge of all hotel features/services, hours of operation, room rates, special packages and promotions, daily house count and expected arrivals/departures and scheduled daily group activities.
• Maintain complete knowledge of correct maintenance and use of equipment. Use equipment only as intended.
• Monitor and maintain cleanliness, sanitation and organization of assigned work areas.
• Receive daily work assignments from Chief Engineer/Supervisor and review priorities and special projects.
• Check work orders and night report for any problems. Make rounds checking these problem areas and note any information needed or safety concerns in the hotel.
• Schedule work in accordance with preventive maintenance program in rooms, coordinating with the Executive Housekeeper and Front Office.
• Assist electrician, carpenter, plumber and painter in all phases of repair work.
• Maintain the proper use, cleaning, maintenance and storage of all tools.
• Handle chemicals for designated uses/surfaces.
• Use all chemicals in accordance with OSHA regulations and hotel requirements.
• Ensure security of any assigned keys.
• Working knowledge of:
• health codes
• electrical codes
• national/local fire codes
• local mechanical codes
• blueprints and wiring schematics
• power and hand tools, meters, etc. as it relates to the technical trades
• Assists in handling emergencies to protect our guests and associates and preserve the building and its systems during the emergency. Must act as quickly and responsibly as possible to return the building to its normal operating status.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Exert physical effort in lifting/transporting at least 50 pounds.
• Push/pull carts and other equipment up to 250 pounds.
• Endure various physical movements throughout the work areas.
• Work environment – Engineering workshop, all areas of the hotel. Working on stepladders. Job involves working under variable temperature conditions and noise levels, in indoor and outdoor settings, and around fumes and/or odor hazards, dust and/or mite hazards, and chemicals.
• Must be able to stand and exert well paced mobility for up to 8 hours in length.

QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

• High School Graduate or General Education Degree (GED): or Work Equivalent
• Computer skills required. Familiarity with Microsoft Office preferred. Experience with hotel systems is preferred
• Minimum of 1 to 2 years of experience as a Maintenance Assistant is preferred.
• Good understanding of the English language, good communication skills both written and verbal.
• Methods, and materials used in general building maintenance, carpentry, plumbing, building and electrical units and HVAC. The use and repair of common tools and equipment used in general maintenance. Maintenance and repair of facilities. Systems design and troubleshooting.
• Minimum 2 year(s) experience as a commercial electrician or in other trade (plumbing, HVAC etc.)
