Job summary

Commonwealth Lodging Management is seeking a Maintenance Assistant in Norfolk to support hotel engineering operations and preventive maintenance. You will assist trades, manage tools, and help ensure guest safety and comfort.

The ideal candidate has 1–2 years in maintenance, basic computer skills, and a solid grasp of English for written and verbal communication. This on-site role requires adherence to safety standards and hotel procedures.

Qualifications

• High School Graduate or GED or equivalent work experience.
• Computer skills required; familiarity with Microsoft Office preferred.
• 1–2 years of experience as Maintenance Assistant is preferred.
• Minimum 2 years of experience as a commercial electrician or in related trades (plumbing, HVAC).
• Good understanding of English; strong written and verbal communication.
• Experience with hotel systems is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Maintain hotel engineering operations and preventive maintenance programs.
• Assist electricians, carpenters, plumbers and painters in repair work.
• Ensure safety, security and proper use of tools and equipment.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:Be in proper uniform, with a nametag.Always maintain positive guest relations. Work to resolve guest complaints, ensuring guest satisfaction.Maintain knowledge of all hotel features/services, hours of operation, room rates, special packages and promotions, daily house count and expected arrivals/departures and scheduled daily group activities.Maintain complete knowledge of correct maintenance and use of equipment. Use equipment only as intended.Monitor and maintain cleanliness, sanitation and organization of assigned work areas.Receive daily work assignments from Chief Engineer/Supervisor and review priorities and special projects.Check work orders and night report for any problems. Make rounds checking these problem areas and note any information needed or safety concerns in the hotel.Schedule work in accordance with preventive maintenance program in rooms, coordinating with the Executive Housekeeper and Front Office.Assist electrician, carpenter, plumber and painter in all phases of repair work.Maintain the proper use, cleaning, maintenance and storage of all tools.Handle chemicals for designated uses/surfaces.Use all chemicals in accordance with OSHA regulations and hotel requirements.Ensure security of any assigned keys.Working knowledge of:health codeselectrical codesnational/local fire codeslocal mechanical codesblueprints and wiring schematicspower and hand tools, meters, etc. as it relates to the technical tradesAssists in handling emergencies to protect our guests and associates and preserve the building and its systems during the emergency.
