Job summary

Shoreline Community College seeks a full-time Maintenance Supervisor 3 to lead a skilled maintenance team across campus facilities. You will direct work on plumbing, HVAC, electrical, and mechanical systems, ensuring safety and efficiency.

Under the Director of Facilities and Capital Projects, you will review plans, supervise contractors, and implement preventive maintenance programs while coordinating campus shutdowns and major projects.

Qualifications

• Minimum: High school diploma or equivalent and journeyman tradesworker status in a recognized trade.
• Five years as a journey tradesworker with two years in a lead or supervisory capacity.
• Valid Washington state driver’s license and knowledge of campus safety regulations.

Responsibilities

• Plan, organize, and direct maintenance work on plumbing, HVAC, electrical, and related systems.
• Serve as on‑call maintenance supervisor for emergency needs.
• Support capital projects by reviewing specs, blueprints, and submittals for planning and cost estimates.

OFM Salary Range: 63 -$80,439(Step A)-$105,513(Step L)/yr, depending on years of experience*

The Facilities and Capital Projects division operates and maintains building systems, interior spaces, and building exteriors across Shoreline Community College’s 26 buildings, including an award-winning automotive training center, a visual arts building, computer centers, laboratories, a student center, a theater, a gymnasium, a child-care center, a multimedia center, and the Ray W. Howard Library/Technology Center.

Shoreline College is seeking to hire a full-time Maintenance Supervisor 3 position. Under the general direction of the Director of Facilities and Capital Projects, this position supports the College’s mission by performing Supervisory level work in the maintenance, repair, remodeling, alteration, and construction of Shoreline Community College buildings, grounds, facilities, and equipment.

Primary responsibilities include the following:

• Plan, organize, and direct the work of maintenance team or contractors engaged in the installation, maintenance, and repair of plumbing, heating, water, cooling, refrigeration, sewer, HVAC, and mechanical/electrical control systems;
• Serve as on-call maintenance supervisor to address any emergency needs.
• Support the Director of Facilities and Capital Projects on all major and minor capital projects.
• Review specifications, blueprints, and submittals for capital planning and projects and provide feedback;
• Coordinate campus shutdowns with project contractors and schedules training with maintenance team.
• Develop, conduct, and lead a preventative maintenance program for assigned machinery and equipment
• Conduct continuous reviews of daily, weekly, monthly, annual, and biannual preventative maintenance tasks within the work order management system;
• Update fixed assets to reflect accurate information at all times.
• Consult with appropriate resources to plan, estimate, and execute projects; requisitions materials and equipment;
• Create estimates for building improvement requests, the repairs, modifications, and additions of equipment.
• Assist with planning, organizing, and direction of training for assigned personnel;
• Review and recommend routine safety training utilizing multiple platforms;
• Assist in demonstrating and presenting safety materials to the team.

Minimum Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Journey status as a tradesworker in one of the recognized fields such as plumbing, carpentry, electrical, masonry, or sheet metal;
• Five years of work experience as a journey tradesworker, two of which must be in a lead or supervisory capacity; OR equivalent education/experience
• Valid Washington state driver’s license.

Knowledge Of:

• WISHA and OSHA regulations pertaining to campus operations.

• Theory, principles, methods, and techniques used in the installation, repair, and maintenance of campus operations equipment

• Utilization of Alteron control system;

• Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety rules and regulations.
• HP3000 - FMS programs, and the state Megamation electronic system.
• Computer-based work management software
• Microsoft office suite, Outlook, and Teams.

Skill In:

• Supervising employees of various trade groups.
• Demonstrated skill in training others.
• Maintenance of electrical, mechanical, and other equipment and associated systems.

• Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing and carry out oral and written instructions;

• Troubleshooting and diagnosing mechanical and electrical system problems.

• Maintenance work management including schedule development and implementation.
• Ability to read, interpret, and work from blueprints, schematics, drawings, specifications, and construction documents;
• Ability to diagnose equipment problems, communicate findings, procure appropriate components, and make timely repairs.

• Skills in establishing and maintaining effective work relationships with the facilities director, other facilities supervisors, and various groups with the campus community.

Physical Work Environment:

The College provides services both online and in-person. This position will perform work in a standard office setting, use standard office equipment and physically attend meetings both on and off campus.Please note, there may be limited opportunities for online work depending on program or area needs. If authorized for online work, employees will need to provide their own workspace and internet access, noting the College will provide technical equipment and support for online work needs. This position requires the following:

• Ability to read blueprints and schematic drawings.
• Ability to communicate in English both in person and through other appropriate means.
• Ability to lift 50 pounds.
• Ability to walk/stand for prolonged periods of time, bend/reach, lift, pull or push objects weighting up to 75lbs, climb ladders, and operate heavy machinery.

Terms Of Employment/Salary:

This position is allocated to pay range 63, under the Washington State Office of Financial Management higher education salary schedule. Salary placement for new employees is determined by the College. This position works 40 hours per week, with a schedule dependent upon department needs. Hiring of this position is contingent on available funding as determined by the College President.
