Job summary

Seattle Center is seeking an Assistant Facility Maintenance Supervisor to oversee day-to-day operations for a 74-acre campus with 15 facilities. You will supervise Trades Crew Chiefs and staff across unions, manage budgets, and drive safety and efficiency in facilities maintenance.

The role reports to the TFM Manager and requires coordinating with project managers on campus redevelopment, scheduling, and compliance with TFM certifications. Hybrid in-office schedule applies.

Qualifications

  • Six years of facilities operations and/or operational maintenance experience, including at least two years as a lead worker or supervisor in construction, remodeling, or structural maintenance of buildings or electrical or mechanical systems.

Responsibilities

  • Lead event and facility operations, ensuring secure, seamless support for Seattle Center festivals and gatherings; partner with project managers on campus redevelopment initiatives.
  • Supervise a team of 50 full-time and 85 intermittent staff, including three Crew Chiefs and various maintenance operations; navigate Collective Bargaining Agreements and maintain healthy relationships with Labor Unions.
  • Manage department budgets, oversee billing, and resolve customer concerns, negotiating appropriate resolutions.
  • Set and track maintenance service levels for the Campus, Armory, and McCaw Hall; administer vendor contracts and the Equipment Asset Management (EAM) system.
  • Coordinate hiring, training, performance management, and scheduling using the ShiftBoard system; monitor compliance with required TFM certifications.

Assistant Facility Maintenance Supervisor

We are seeking a qualified professional for the position of Assistant Facility Maintenance Supervisor. This role directly supervises Trades Crew Chiefs and other personnel in the Technical Facilities Maintenance (TFM) division, overseeing day‑to‑day operations and long‑range planning for over 50 regular and 85 intermittent employees who support maintenance for a 74‑acre campus with 15 different facilities. As the second‑in‑command to the TFM Manager, you will plan, direct, and supervise daily operations, drive continuous process improvement, and oversee multi‑functional teams ranging from Crew Chiefs to administrative and landscaping staff.

Job Responsibilities

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications

Six years of facilities operations and/or operational maintenance experience, including at least two years as a lead worker or supervisor in construction, remodeling, or structural maintenance of buildings or electrical or mechanical systems; or in physical plant engineering (HVAC, refrigeration, etc.). College‑level education in civil, construction, electrical, industrial, mechanical, physical plant, or general engineering may be substituted for up to three years of experience (not for lead experience).

Licensing And Other Requirements

Valid driver’s license or evidence of equivalent mobility required.

  • Strategic execution: Balance long‑term vision with hands‑on planning to achieve project goals within budget.
  • Team leadership: Lead cross‑functional teams, manage unionized staff, and navigate Collective Bargaining Agreements.
  • Employee relations: Resolve personnel concerns, conduct disciplinary processes, and maintain confidentiality.
Operations & Facility Management
  • Facility expertise: Hold relevant facility management or building maintenance certifications.
  • Asset & waste management: Experienced with Enterprise Asset Management (EAM) or similar work‑order systems, committed to maximizing recycling and minimizing waste.
  • Safety first: Prove ability to develop, implement, and oversee safety‑focused work environments and projects.
Communication & Customer Service
  • Stakeholder relations: Build and maintain excellent relationships with internal staff, clients, patrons, and the public.
  • Communication: Demonstrate high‑level written and verbal communication, strong administrative skills, and a customer‑service orientation.
  • Tech savviness: Proficient in MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel) and customized software applications.
Work Environment/Conditions
  • This position offers flexibility with a hybrid work schedule; employees will be expected to be in‑office three times a week, with individual schedules determined in agreement with the supervisor.
Additional Information

The full pay range for this step‑progression position is $57.31 – $66.75 per hour. New employees begin at Step 1 of the pay progression, $57.31 per hour.

Language premium pay may be available to qualified bilingual employees, providing a $200 monthly stipend for direct communication in‑language services to the public.

  • Applicants must successfully pass a background check conducted in accordance with Seattle’s Fair Chance Employment Ordinance.
  • Selected candidates may need to provide a complete five‑year driving record from the Department of Licensing.
