Job summary

Shoreline Community College is seeking a skilled Maintenance Technician to operate, maintain, repair, and improve mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems across campus. You will install, inspect, and repair equipment while upholding safety standards and delivering reliable service to campus stakeholders.

Responsibilities include preventative maintenance, responding to work orders, and collaborating with facilities teams.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent or demonstrate equivalent education/experience.
• 4 years of general work experience in building and equipment maintenance construction or repair work or completion of a recognized apprenticeship.
• Valid Washington State driver’s license with clean driving record; ability to obtain First Aid/CPR within 60 days.

OFM Salary Range

48G -$64,399(Step G)-$72,816(Step L)/yr, depending on years of experience*. Salary is set by WA Office of Financial Management and is not negotiable. Salary listed is inclusive of King County Pay Premium* Step M at $74,693 is attainable for those who have 6 consecutive years working in a WA State institution.

The Facilities and Capital Projects area is responsible for the system operations and interior/exterior maintenance of 26 buildings across campus, including an award-winning automotive training center, a visual arts building, computer centers, laboratories, a student center, a theater, a gymnasium, a child-care center, a multimedia center, and the Ray W. Howard Library/Technology Center. Under the general supervision of the Maintenance Specialist 4, this position is responsible for performing journey level skilled work in the operation, maintenance, repair, remodeling and construction of mechanical, plumbing, and electrical equipment and systems in buildings and on the grounds.

Primary responsibilities

• Performs preventative maintenance and repairs on all types of mechanical equipment such as electrical drive motors, laundry, kitchen, laboratory, and air-conditioning equipment; changes or cleans filters, drive belts, sprockets, shafts and bearings to ensure proper operation
• Performs preventative maintenance such as oil change, lubrication, fix flats, repair lights, replace fan belts, etc., on shop equipment, vehicles and construction equipment
• Performs maintenance, operation, and repair of architectural, electrical, mechanical and structural systems of buildings and utility distribution
• Monitors safety, fire protection and environmental control equipment to ensure the building systems and equipment are operating in a satisfactory condition; respond to service request and secure necessary assistance; take preventative and emergency action to control malfunctions
• Operates hand tools, power tools and other shop equipment; performs welding and metal fabrication; fabricates materials and equipment
• Installs, maintains, and repairs electrical connections, switches, circuits, electrical equipment, thermostats, and valves
• Assists with set-up and take-down of various events on campus;
• Provide excellent customer service to stakeholders
• Participates in recommended and required training for safety and professional development
• Other duties as assigned of a similar level/nature

Education & Experience

• High school graduate or equivalent; AND
• Four (4) years of general work experience in building and equipment maintenance construction or repair work or completion of a recognized apprenticeship in a skilled mechanic trade OR
• Equivalent education/experience

Licenses

• Valid Washington State driver's license;
• Clean driving record (maximum of one [1] moving violation in the last twelve [12] months, no suspension/revocation of license for reckless driving, hit and run, leaving an accident scene, failure to appear, DUI, or other vehicle-related felony in the last five [5] years) Interview finalists will be required to submit a current driving abstract (no more than one [1] month old) to meet the licensing requirement
• Current First Aid/CPR certification or ability to obtain within 60 days of hire

Knowledge Of

• Microsoft Office applications such as SharePoint, Teams, Excel, Outlook, and Word programs
• OSHA, WISHA, and fire regulations applicable to a community college environment
• Plumbing, electrical, welding, carpentry, and/or machinist work

Skill In

Physical Work Environment

Duties common to maintenance work require physical strength, agility, and endurance to walk/stand for prolonged periods of time, bend/reach, lift, pull or push objects weighing up to 75 lbs., climb ladders, operate lifts and machinery, and able to maneuver within tight spaces and vaults. Most work is performed inside buildings, but some movement between buildings and roofs is essential.

Terms Of Employment/Salary

This position is allocated to pay range 48G, under the Washington State Office of Financial Management higher education salary schedule. Salary placement for new employees is determined by the College. This position works 40 hours per week, with a schedule dependent upon department needs. Hiring of this position is contingent on available funding as determined by the College President.
